Charles Leclerc secured pole position again at his home race in Monaco.
The 24-year-old Ferrari driver from the Principality relegated his team-mate Carlos Sainz to second place in the Formula 1 qualification.
The Spaniard was 0.225 seconds slower.
Max Verstappen, last year's winner at the Monaco Grand Prix, world champion and championship leader, finished fourth in the Red Bull.
The Dutchman also landed behind his Mexican team-mate Sergio Pérez, who slipped into the crash barriers shortly before the end and caused a traffic jam and a premature end in front of the legendary tunnel.
Record world champion Lewis Hamilton had to settle for eighth place in the Mercedes in the knockout elimination at the Formula 1 classic.
Teammate George Russell ended up sixth.
Sebastian Vettel surprisingly made it into the top ten in the Aston Martin in ninth place, Mick Schumacher was 15th in the Haas.
After his premature exit in Spain, Leclerc, who was first in qualifying, is six points behind Verstappen, who won in Monaco for the first time a year ago.
The Dutchman also benefited from the fact that Leclerc was unable to start despite pole due to a defect in his Ferrari.
