That was a strong performance: triathlete Simon Henseleit was fighting for an EM medal until the end.

At the end of the super sprint, the difference was two seconds.

Olsztyn - Triathlete Simon just missed out on an EM medal: In the final of the elite men in the super sprint, the Steingadener (22) took fifth place after a strong performance.

The difference to bronze was only two seconds.

In the final, which took place on Saturday evening, Simon Henseleit delivered a strong performance.

After the 300 meters swim, he was already well positioned, as one of the first of 30 finalists, he came out of the transition zone and got on his bike. In the rainy weather, Henseleit did a lot of leadership work, which also ensured that a group of 13 athletes pulled away could.

At the end of the 8 kilometers, Henseleit was the first to drive into the transition zone and was also the leader on the 2-kilometer run.

There, a leadership group consisting of six athletes was formed.

During the course of the race, Henseleit was sixth, just behind Brit Daniel Dixon.

As we approached the finish line, four athletes pulled away from the front.

Simon Henseleit fought and could not completely close the gap.

Right at the front, the German Valentin Wernz (23:27 minutes) won the gold medal.

The other places on the podium went to Briton Barcley Izzard (23:29) and Frenchman Anthony Pujades (23:30).

Fourth was the Swiss Simon Westermann (23:31), behind him Henseleit crossed the finish line in fifth (23:32).

Simon Henseleit easily qualified for the final - he finished third in his semi-final on Friday.

A total of 30 athletes qualified for the final from three semi-final heats.

Henseleit - together with his sister Franca - competed at the Super Sprint European Championships in Kitzbühel last year.

There he had missed the A final and had finished fourth in the B final.
