After three grueling weeks of 21 sections and a total distance of 3,446 kilometers, the 105th edition of the Grand Tour - the Giro d'Italia - closed, with the big winner being the Australian Jay Hindley.
Hindla from the Bora – Hensgroha team, finished the gyro with an overall time of 86:31:14 hours, while the last section against the clock for a distance of 17.4 km in the city of Verona, was won by the local Matteo Sobro with 22:24 minutes. The 26-year-old thus became the first Australian ever to win the pink shirt, this after being close to it in 2020 when he finished only in second place in the end.

His resume in the Grand Tour is quite sparse, as he never competed in the Tour de France and finished in 32nd place in the only year he competed in the Volta Espanya in 2019.
"It's an amazing feeling," the new champion said.
"I'm emotionally charged, sitting on me a lot of what happened in 2020 and I did not want it to happen again. I'm happy to be the first Australian to do it."
