US tennis teenager Coco Gauff won the quarterfinals of the French Open 7: 5, 6: 2 against her compatriot Sloane Stephens - and is thus in the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

Gauff convinced with her aggressive style of play, converted her second match point after 1:30 hours and remained in the tournament without losing a set.

»I am so happy and can hardly find words.

Until last year, I may have tried too hard to live up to the expectations of others," said 18-year-old Gauff: "It's much more about enjoying life."

The last teenager to win Roland Garros was the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek 2020 - after winning 32 matches in a row, top favorite to win in Paris.

Unseeded in the semifinals

Also in the last four for the first time is Gauff's opponent in the semifinals on Thursday, Martina Trevisan.

The unseeded Italian won the duel against Canadian US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 6: 2, 6: 7 (3: 7), 6: 3.

"I thought too much about the first match point," said the 28-year-old Trevisan, who served to win in the second set: "The most important thing is that I then accepted the situation and continued." After 2:21 hours it was her success perfect.

Trevisan, who last won a WTA title for the first time in Rabat, is the first Italian semi-finalist at Roland Garros since Sara Errani in 2013.
