The preliminary round of the girls in the Merkur CUP in Penzberg offered many goals and a nice atmosphere.

The organizers from SG Penzberg also played a major role in this.

Penzberg – If proof was needed that Arthur Schenk actually deserved the BFV special prize for commitment to women's and girls' football, which he was awarded last November, then a short visit to the girls' preliminary round of the Merkur CUP in Penzberg would be the way to go been sufficient.

Schenk was involved in several functions - as tournament boss, organizer, coach of the SG Penzberg girls and even referee.

Oh yes, and visitors who had a question were also sent to him.

The tournament for the twelve teams was well organized and took place in a relaxed atmosphere.

Arthur Schenk and his team of helpers with perfect tournament organization

Schenk has been involved in women's football for seven years.

The basics are important to him in the club's work: "The foundation has to be right," emphasizes Schenk.

The construction work has borne fruit.

Penzberg is – next to Huglfing (with Harald Gärtner, who was also awarded by the BFV) – the largest location in the district when it comes to “girls’ football”.

The SG has teams in all four youth classes, the women form a playing community with Bichl in the district class.

Successful on home turf: Coach Arthur Schenk and the players from SG Penzberg were in a goal mood and qualified as group winners for the second preliminary round on June 25th.

After all, the C juniors play in the district league.

Most of the approximately 100 SG girls come from ESV Penzberg.

Schenk is also the head of the department for women and girls there.

But there are also players from the other clubs in the city – FC, DJK, SpVgg Maxkron.

As a non-native from Penzberg, he doesn't care about any rivalries.

At the Merkur CUP on the sports grounds on Fischhaberstraße, however, the women from Penzberg competed in the club colors of the local railway workers' sports club;

so in black and white.

But that has more practical reasons - because this set of jerseys was the easiest available that day.

SG Penzberg gets the maximum number of points in the preliminary round

Numerous players from the other youth teams of the SG were on duty during the tournament, including in the tournament management.

So Schenk was required, but it didn't mutate into a pure one-man show.

Around 20 helpers, divided into two shifts, were in action.

It was also important to feed the visitors.

The twelve teams came with a good following, mostly parents and siblings.

The fans were in good spirits - Rot Weiß Überacker had brought a drum with them, and goals were celebrated with a La Ola wave at FFC Wacker Munich.

In terms of sport, there were big differences within the individual groups – the two best teams progressed.

The three group winners, TSV Schäftlarn (F), record title holders FFC Wacker Munich (G) and SG Penzberg (H) each won with the maximum of twelve points.

In other words, they won the famous extra point in every game.

The Merkur CUP also applies to the girls' tournament: Anyone who scores three or more goals in a game receives an additional point (regardless of the outcome of the game).

The TuS Holzkirchen team included some players who played their first official game ever.

With a 0:0 against SC Pöcking, the team even got a point.

SC Huglfing started with a very young squad, in which one player belonged to the 2014 vintage and three players to the 2013 vintage.

The team did without the opportunity to use more experienced guest players.

Coach Tim Darling's protégés fought valiantly in group H, but were not granted a point.

SC Huglfing with a very young team at the start

As a recently thrown together team, we found ourselves in a hammer group," said SC coach Darling.

The coach took the big defeats against Pullach and Penzberg in a sporty way: "We just have to say: Hats off, the opponents were great.

But maybe we'll get there." In the first game, 4-1 against Gilching, "there could have been more, but at least there was a goal." The girls were disappointed at first, but from experience "everyone will be good learn and train even more motivated".

The SC girls are "a wonderful bunch of characters in character," praised Darling.

Starting with a young team: SC Huglfing (in yellow jerseys) started as outsiders in Group H.

The fight for second place in Group H was particularly exciting. There, SV Pullach and TSV Gilching/Argelsried were tied on points at the end.

Since the direct comparison ended in a draw (1:1), the goal difference had to decide.

Pullach (+2) was ahead of Gilching (-3).

SV Bad Tölz (with a newly formed team that was only recently registered for the game) and TSV Herrsching finished as runners-up in each group.
