The relegation to the Bayernliga is entering the all-important phase.

VfB Hallbergmoos is ready for the artificial turf in Neudrossenfeld.

Hallbergmoos

– Now it's time!

For half a year, the VfB Hallbergmoos footballers fought against relegation from the Bayernliga - and now with a view to the relegation final against TSV Neudrossenfeld (Wednesday, 7 p.m., in Neudrossenfeld and Saturday, 4 p.m., in Hallbergmoos) the team is so close to the goal

VfB trainer Matthias Strohmaier keeps saying this one sentence: "Now we can and will gild our race to catch up."

Final opponent Neudrossenfeld finished second in the promotion round of the Landesliga Nordost (nine wins, three draws, four defeats) and then won twice against the penultimate from the Bayernliga Nord, SV Seligenporten (1-0 home, 2-1 away).

The Upper Franconians are a kind of counterpart to Fortuna Regensburg: VfB's first relegation opponent had a very strong offensive - and now a very compact state league team is waiting.

It is striking that the team has won almost all tight games.

In the relegation, TSV was 1-0 down in Seligenporten and turned the game around.

So the Neudrossenfelders are not so easily upset.

Important information from Strohmaier's ex-trainer

VfB coach Matthias Strohmaier would have been looking forward to a duel with his ex-coach Gerd Klaus, under whom he played for a long time in the regional league at 1. FC Schweinfurt 05.

Klaus is now relegated to SV Seligenporten and was able to tell his ex-protégé some things about the opponent.

VfB drives to the Kulmbach district with a few fans and a lot of euphoria.

At the moment, the impression is spreading that the Hallbergers want to make up for the quiet and emotionless promotion to the Bavarian league after the 2019/21 season was canceled due to the corona with a celebration to stay up in the league.

In any case, the team is prepared for the artificial turf pitch (!) in Neudrossenfeld.

On Monday they trained on the artificial green in Hallbergmoos.

"For us as a playfully and technically strong team, that's not a disadvantage," assures Strohmaier.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

In addition to Kaan Aygün (torn cruciate ligament), the VfB coach has to do without the injured Simon Werner and Leon Schmit, who is on international duty with the Luxembourg U21 national team.

In principle, however, a few recently ailing players have recovered.

"Everything looks much better than before the second leg against Regensburg," says Strohmaier.

And the player-coach himself is so healthy after his Achilles tendon rupture last year that not even the artificial turf can stop him.

When it comes to tactics, VfB don't let their cards be looked at

Tactically, the state league team has to be surprised.

In the first round of relegation, VfB started with the back three that worked well in the league and then made the decisive move by returning to the back four with top fighter Andreas Giglberger as a vacuum cleaner in front of it.

The cards are reshuffled in Neudrossenfeld – the staff allows for different systems.

More important to Matthias Strohmaier than the formation, however, is the “Mia san Mia” that he took with him from FC Bayern II and is also trying to instill in VfB: “We’re going to Neudrossenfeld as the fourth-best Bayernliga team in the second half of the season to win.

And if we then also win the home game, our race to catch up will be golden.”

Possible line-up:

VfB Hallbergmoos:

Dinkel - Petschner, Strohmaier, Mömkes, Mühlrath - Giglberger, Kostorz, Küttner (Beetz) - Krause, Diranko, Sahin (Bauer).
