Yinon Eliyahu is close to signing for Maccabi Haifa and he is expected to become champion after two years at Maccabi Petah Tikva.
The 28-year-old plays mostly as a right-back, but can also function as a back-up midfielder and left-back.
The parties have been in contact recently and after a conclusion has been reached, the signing is expected today or tomorrow.
Eliyahu made a long route on the way to the expected signing in Kfar Galim.
He grew up in the youth department of Betar Jerusalem, but did not reach the senior team and began his career at Modiin in the second division. Later he also played for Maccabi Kiryat Malachi, Maccabi Herzliya and Hapoel Katamon, before in the summer of 2017 he got his first chance in the Premier League. In 2019, he moved to Hapoel Ramat Gan and after a season, he joined Maccabi Petah Tikva.
Despite the addition of Eliyahu, Maccabi Haifa continues to look for a foreign right defender.

Meanwhile, Neta Lavie is expected to extend his contract in the green uniform after a conclusion in principle was reached.
The captain holds a contract until the summer of 2023 and Haifa did not want to enter the upcoming season without ensuring his stay for a longer time.
In addition, Haifa is expected to try to close with Josh Cohen in the coming days.
It is estimated that the goalkeeper will indeed stay when the dispute now is over the length of the contract.
Cohen wants a long-term contract, in Haifa they prefer one season with an option, but the assessment is that the parties will reach an equal valley and the goalkeeper will remain.
