Yarmolenko captain on mission
The Ukrainian captain had an excellent game.
Leader of this Ukrainian team on a mission, Yarmolenko participated in his team's first clear chance by passing for Yaremchuk who stumbled on Gordon (16th).
He then takes his chance from afar after a solitary rush but his shot goes over (27th).
Then, on a magnificent opening from Malinovskyi over the defense, the former West Ham player, delights with superb control at the entrance to the area and a lob on Gordon to open the scoring (32nd).
This is the 45th national goal for Yarmolenko.
The captain of Zbirna is also on the action of the second Ukrainian goal with a good job on the right side before serving Karavaev back for the cross and the goal of Yaremchuk (47th).
Ukraine can still believe in the World Cup
While the country is going through dark and painful times since its invasion by Russia on February 24, the Ukrainians have given a little balm to the hearts of an entire people.
Not favorites at kick-off, Zinchenko's teammates offered great things against Scotland to win (3-1) in Glasgow.
A victory all the more beautiful as 6 of the 11 holders of Zbirna play in the Ukrainian championship and have not played a single club match since December.
The Ukrainians offer themselves a final in the qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup against Wales.
This national team is on a mission and will put all its heart into qualifying for the next World Cup in Qatar.
FLOPS
The Dykes and Adams Ghosts
The two Scottish strikers showed absolutely nothing in this match.
They went through this momentous meeting like wandering ghosts on the lawn of Hampden Park.
Neither of the two centre-forwards weighed on the Ukrainian defense.
Between them, they lost 19 balls, shot once on goal (Adams) and touched 45 balls.
Che Adams has won only 4 of his 10 contested duels.
A very low total for the Scottish offensive line which was completely harmless since the danger on the Scottish side came mainly from midfielders and full-backs.
Bushchan the Ukrainian weak link
The Ukrainian goalkeeper was far below the level of his teammates on Wednesday.
The Dynamo kyiv goalkeeper multiplied the blunders and was absolutely not reassuring.
Yet aged 28, he could have cost the victory to his team.
He is countered at the foot in the 55th minute and he is very happy to see the ball pass next to his goal.
Bushchan misses on a cross from McTominay and gives an opportunity to equalize to Mcginn who sees his header go just wide (67th).
Finally, he completely relaunched Scotland at the end of the match with a missed punching out taken over by McGregor.
The Ukrainian goalkeeper is completely holed up with a hand fault which ends in goal (80th).
The goalkeeper position is a complicated job in Ukraine with the average performance of Bushchan and the aging Pyatov who is not eternal.
Scotland have completely foiled
Robertson had however warned his partners, it was not necessary to make in the feeling this Wednesday in spite of the situation with this war in Ukraine.
The Scottish captain's words apparently did not find an echo in the dressing room.
The residents of Hampden Park showed absolutely nothing in the first half and were surprised by more enterprising Ukrainians and the opener from Yarmolenko (32nd).
We expected this goal to wake up the Scottish national team but it didn't.
The Ukrainians made the break at the start of the second period (49th).
Back to the wall, the Scots then began to push and managed to close the gap in the 80th minute with a goal from McGregor.
It was unfortunately too late and Dovbyk dashed Scotland's last hopes in the 95th minute.
