Manuel Neuer recently signed a new contract with FC Bayern.

At the same time, the Munich team now want to extend the contract with the loaned keeper Alexander Nübel.

Munich – While FC Bayern loses an absolute top performer in Robert Lewandowski, both Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer extended their contracts with the record champions.

The latter recently signed a new contract until 2024, after which there could already be a changing of the guard in the goalkeeper position.

As Hasan Salihamidzic recently emphasized, the club plans to continue with the loaned Alexander Nübel.

Even a contract extension with the 25-year-old is in the room.

Contract with FC Bayern until: June 30, 2025

Compulsory games for FC Bayern: 4

FC Bayern loan Nübel remains realistic – Bayern return depends on Manuel Neuer

Nübel was loaned to AS Monaco for two seasons at the beginning of last season and, thanks to good performances, secured a permanent place.

He finished third in the table with the Monegasques and kept eleven clean sheets in 38 Ligue 1 appearances. He also gained international experience in the Europa League and in the Champions League qualifiers.

At the beginning of May, the 25-year-old made it clear that his return to Bayern depended on Manuel Neuer.

"If Manuel is still there, I think it won't work anymore," said the Paderborn native.

As long as Neuer is there, "it doesn't make sense for me to come back," he explained.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper is still tied to Munich until 2024, Nübel's contract with Bayern runs until 2025.

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has now made it clear to

that they want to continue working with Nübel.

"We can very well imagine extending his contract.

We will coordinate all steps with Alex and his advisor in close exchange and always look for and find the best solution for FC Bayern and Alex," the 45-year-old told the newspaper.

"FC Bayern is planning long-term with Alexander Nübel because we believe in his quality and want to position ourselves as a goalkeeper in the future.

Alex had a very strong season in Monaco, keeping 11 clean sheets.

Monaco also has him to thank for the fact that they still have the opportunity to reach the Champions League through the qualifying round,” Salihamidzic praised the loan.

Nevertheless, FC Bayern is "very happy that Manuel Neuer has extended until 2024", at the same time they are "very satisfied with Alexander's development", said the Bosnian.

But when will Nübel return?

"As of now, I'll be back in 2023," he said at a press conference in early May.

In that case, he would have to compete against the then 37-year-old veteran Neuer for a season.
