Trying to reconcile the families?
The AP reports that all the cases of the Bavarian authorities related to the massacre in Munich at the 1972 Olympics will be published ahead of the 50th anniversary.
As mentioned for the first time in Israel Today, the plans to hold a commemoration ceremony with the participation of the presidents of the countries, the heads of the Olympic Committee and the families of the athletes are in danger, after the bereaved families announced that they would boycott it if they did not receive the financial compensation.
The families have also criticized the lack of transparency on the part of the federal authorities, and the state in Germany, when it comes to the cases of the massacre.
The AP news agency reported that Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herman has announced that they will release all unpublished files.
In 2002, the German federal government agreed to pay about 3 million euros in compensation to the families of the victims of the Munich massacre, but the families demanded compensation of $ 10 million, as paid to each victim of the families killed in the 1988 bombing of Lockerbie.
If that's not enough, Munich is set to host the biggest multi-sport event in its finals since the 1972 Olympics in the form of the European Championships, to be held from 11 to 21 August and reportedly also to mark the massacre there.
The victims were commemorated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Olympic Village in Rio 2016, before a minute of silence was held at the opening ceremony for the first time in Tokyo 2020.
