With luck and thanks to Joshua Kimmich, the German national soccer team drew 1-1 (0-0) in the Nations League against European champions Italy, but for many fans of the DFB selection it was not an all-round successful away trip.
The handling of the Italian authorities with the guests caused some trouble among the supporters in Bologna on Saturday – the German Football Association (DFB) reacted to the displeasure of the fans late on Sunday evening with thanks and a promise.
"Dear fans of the DFB team," wrote the association on Twitter, "thank you for your support in Bologna!
Unfortunately, the general conditions surrounding the game were not as they should be for guests.
We will work with the Italian authorities to ensure that this does not happen again.
Thank you for your composure.«
What happened?
As is usual for international matches of the DFB-Elf abroad, the German spectators had to pick up the tickets ordered through the national team fan club by presenting a voucher.
However, the designated location was 30 minutes from the city center and shuttle buses were no longer available for the return trip.
That's why numerous fans only came to the Stadio Dall'Ara at the last minute.
Around 800 away fans who had ordered their tickets through the fan club were affected.
A total of about 1000 German supporters were there.
The German national team started the new Nations League season on Saturday with a draw against Italy.
In Bologna, coach Hansi Flick's team drew 1-1 (0-0) in front of 23,754 spectators.
Lorenzo Pellegrini initially gave the hosts the lead (70th minute), but Joshua Kimmich equalized shortly afterwards (73rd).
In the other game of Group 3 of League A, Hungary defeated England 1-0 and are now at the top.
