The Bayernliga footballers from VfB Hallbergmoos have managed to stay up in the league.

In the last relegation game, two defenders provided the magic moment.

Hallbergmoos

- The mission is complete.

With the 1-0 (0-0) win against TSV Neudrossenfeld, the footballers of VfB Hallbergmoos made the future in the Bayernliga perfect.

After a brilliant race to catch up in the second half of the season, the team remained unbeaten in four relegation battles and, after beating SV Fortuna Regensburg (2:2, 3:0), now also prevailed against Neudrossenfelder (4:4, 1:0).

After the wild first leg, the 823 spectators in the small Hallbergmoos witches' cauldron again saw a VfB with system, stability and a clear plan.

On the other hand, the Upper Franconian state league was quite difficult to calculate: The Neudrossenfeld kickers seemed harmless at times, but became dangerous out of nowhere.

In the first half, the hosts made the first attempts to approach the goal – and then came the wake-up call: Hallberg's keeper Martin Dinkel parried a shot on goal from close range with a superb reflex.

The second moment of shock was a late header after a corner just before the break.

Then all dams broke: Andreas Giglberger (l.) starts to celebrate after his 1-0 lead, Andreas Kostorz is the first to congratulate.

Christoph Mömkes flanks, Andreas Giglberger heads

Looking at the first half, a Hallbergmooser lead would have been fine.

The home team had a lot of ball possession, tried to score in a controlled manner and had a triple chance: Fabian Diranko failed twice at the TSV goalkeeper before Carl Opitz headed past the almost empty goal.

In view of the 0:0 at the break, one could almost rule out that there would be an overtime with a renewed 4:4.

The guests had to win for promotion to the Bayernliga, while Hallbergmoos would stay in the league with a draw or a win.

VfB had things under control and played for the 1-0, which would calm things down.

Fabi Diranko checked the goalkeeper once – and then came the magical moment when two regular goal-keepers went on an offensive mission: Christoph Mömkes, this time nominated as a left-back, crossed, central defender Andreas Giglberger headed – and the ball hit the top right, untenable (64. ).

Destiny directed the game – perhaps the best VfB players of the season scored this goal that broke all dams.

Neudrossenfeld staggered for almost ten minutes after the effective hit.

VfB failed to follow up boldly and make the decision.

After a few offensive changes, the guests came back with two great chances (72nd/74th).

One last time the tower in battle

That was the signal for the Hallbergmooser to bring everything in defensive personnel that was still available.

The long-time captain Dennis Hammerl did not get the honorary departure, but was promoted to the tower one last time in the battle.

The club legend, strong in the air, strengthened the center of defense and helped bring the last win home.

In the final minutes, the Upper Franconians were no longer really dangerous in front of the goal, while VfB missed the best counterattack chances in overman situations.

Doesn't matter.

There was no beauty prize that day, but the participation ticket for the Bayernliga 2022/23.

After the final whistle it only took a few minutes until successful player coach Matthias Strohmaier got his beer shower.

For VfB Hallbergmoos, this relegation after just nine points in the first half of the season is like a promotion - and they had also vowed to catch up on the promotion celebrations from the Corona break-up season with the Bayernliga relegation.

That's why the Bavarian league teams from Hallbergmoos are flying to Mallorca on Wednesday to show what real champions are at the Ballermann.

Comments on the game: "I'm not just going to Malle with the team, I'm the tour guide"

Matthias Strohmaier (coach):

“The only important thing was that we managed to stay up in the league, because we came from the last groove.

That's why it doesn't matter that we didn't break our counterattacks in the end.

We were certainly lucky at a few moments, but that's exactly the kind of luck we worked for during the season.

I had many offers as a coach and I was keen on Hallbergmoos.

I'm proud of myself for accepting this.

And now there is beer, a lot of beer even.”

Anselm Küchle (Sports Director):

“That was extremely close.

I remember my words a year ago.

Then I said that staying up is a bigger success than promotion.

I am very proud of what the team has achieved.

And with coach Matthias Strohmaier we did everything right.”

Dennis Hammerl (captain):

"I've never been relegated in my entire career.

It stays that way now, that was so important to me.

This relegation is to be equated with the value of the championship in the national league.

Now there's the pandemic catch-up celebration of Ascension.

I'm not just going to Malle with the team, I'm the tour guide."

Andreas Giglberger (winning goal scorer):

"It was just pure happiness.

I put everything into that header and didn't even see it go in.

During the jubilee run I was just empty.

After the game, when the final whistle blew, I immediately thought about what we've done so well this season.

Before that, in the second half, I had the feeling that nothing would happen to us today.

Now we're tearing down Hallbergmoos.

Then we tear down Hallbergmoos again.

Then we take a day off and then we tear Mallorca down.”

Andreas Kostorz (Vice-Captain):

"In the relegation you need top form, will and head.

We had all that, and whoever draws twice away from home deserves the Bayernliga.

We're party beasts now.

But then, next season, the Bayernliga won't get any easier for us.

But we now know a lot better what exactly is in store for us.”
