After winning the Super Bowl, Aaron Donald considered retiring. Now the star defender of the Los Angeles Rams continues - and is paid better than any non-quarterback before him.

NFL star Aaron Donald from Super Bowl winner Los Angeles Rams can look forward to a strong payday.

The defensive tackle gets a new contract that, according to media reports, gives him a salary increase of $40 million.

This makes the star defenseman the highest-paid non-quarterback in history.

After winning the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals in February, Donald, who was outstanding at the time, was openly considering retiring.

That speculation is now off the table.

On Monday, the LA Rams tweeted a photo showing Donald signing the contract.

Donald will now probably get $ 65 million for the next two seasons.

He is guaranteed to receive the sum, even in the event of an injury.

The contract allows Donald to retire after the 2023 season.

If he continues, he will be entitled to another $30 million in 2024.

Donald is the first non-quarterback in NFL history to be contracted for more than $30 million annually.

His current contract guaranteed Donald a total of 55 million dollars for the next three years.

Donald wants another title

The 31-year-old has won the Defensive Player of the Year title three times in his career - more than any other player.

In his eight years in the league, Donald has 98 sacks, including 12.5 in 2021. A sack is when an opposing quarterback is brought down behind your line of scrimmage.

"It's a big contract," said Rams coach Sean McVay in a radio interview on Monday.

'And he deserves it.

We wanted to find a solution where we take care of him and he continues to lead our team and our defense."

Donald himself addressed fans in a video message released by the LA Rams on Monday: "I'm back.

Let's get another ring.

Why not?"

The new NFL season is scheduled to start on September 8th.

The Rams are going into the race as the defending champions.
