Things are not going well for Daniel Ricciardo this racing year.

The Australian falls short of expectations in his McLaren and the first voices are already being raised that speak of being thrown out.

Munich - A look at the overall standings makes it clear: Daniel Ricciardo is anything but a worthwhile investment for McLaren Motorsport Director Zak Brown's racing team this year.

With a deal reportedly worth in the mid-tens of millions, it's understandable that Brown would want to see results.

McLaren: Team boss Andreas Seidl also increases the pressure on Ricciardo

In addition to the clear criticism from Zak Brown, who according to Sport1 already spoke of mechanisms that would make a unilateral termination of the contract possible, McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl also commented.

His criticism was not quite as brash, but still emphatic.

So Seidl breaks a lance for the Australian and refers to the results that Ricciardo delivered in the McLaren last year.

Seidl also resolutely denies his protégé responsibility for the accident during training in Monaco.

Nevertheless, it's about time that he arrives in the new car and that it makes itself felt in the drivers' standings.

Daniel Ricciardo: Criticism from compatriot and Formula 1 legend Alan Jones

As if the publicly expressed pressure, which, according to team boss Seidl, had been agreed within the racing team, wasn't enough, Australian Formula 1 legend Alan Jones now also intervened.

But instead of standing by his compatriot, Jones ups the ante.

In his eyes, Ricciardo was “too nice” and nice guys would never achieve anything in Formula 1.

At least that's the opinion of Alans Jones.

Surely - if Ricciardo doesn't get the curve soon - there will be the expulsion predicted by Jones, but it will not have been due to Ricciardo's character.

After all, the Australian has shown in the past that he can do better.

And he certainly wasn't a "big ass".

Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher also recently had to take massive criticism: former rally driver Walter Röhrl found harsh words for Vettel's climate protection efforts and denied Schumacher his father's talent.
