High jumper Jonathan Kapitolnik will make history tomorrow (Thursday), when he becomes the first Israeli athlete to participate in the prestigious Diamond League, which will take place this time in Rome.
Since the start of the project in 2010, only four Israeli athletes have participated - the high jumper Daniel Frenkel, the javelin thrower Margarita Dorozhon who achieved the gold in Oslo in 2015 with an Israeli record, Luna Chamtai-Salpter in the 3,000 meters and the time trial, and the jumper The Hannah Knyazeva-Minenko trio who won the silver medal in Paris in 2013.
The 19-year-old Capitolnik arrives at the competition after achieving the world result of the year in early May, which set the criteria for the European Championships in Munich.
Kapitolnik jumped to a height of 2.30 meters, in the Maccabi Israel championships named after the Idelson brothers, which took place in Hadar Yosef.
The Israeli jumper will not be alone in the competition.
Against him, among others, will face no less and no more the Olympic champion from Tokyo, the Italian Gianmarco Tambri, with a personal record of 2.39 meters, the world world runner-up, the Ukrainian Andrei Protsenko, with a personal record of 2.40 meters and many more.
If and when he makes another history, and amazes everyone on the way to the gold medal in the competition - he will receive a particularly pampering grant of $ 10,000.
