Israel will host the World Sambo Beach Championships in Bat Yam this August.
On the first day of the competitions there will be individual competitions, and on the second day there will be group competitions, with each team participating in five athletes: two women and three men.
The competition in Israel is expected to be attended by the chairman of the European Union, Sambo
Sergei Yilsiev
from Russia, who is also the vice chairman of the global association of the industry.
The organizers of the competition, which takes place in collaboration with the Bat Yam Municipality, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Eilat Association, the Otzma Association and Maccabi Israel, expect about 200 participants from about 30 countries.
This is a new industry, which combines wrestling and judo, which is considered very attractive and interesting to watch, as the fights are very short and last an average of 30 to 40 seconds.
The fights take place until the moment an athlete wins first in the score, similar to a gold score in judo.
At the first world championships in sambo beaches held last summer in Cyprus, the Israeli
Matan Iglitsky
(21 from Bat Yam) won a silver medal weighing 71 kg.
The Israeli team for the World Sambo Beach Championships will be determined in about a month, after the Israeli Championships that will be held in Bat Yam on July 9 and will be the last test competition ahead of the competition.
