Start clear: After the long Corona break, the Wartenberg Whitsun Race could finally take place again.

The participants, like the amateur license drivers here, showed great commitment.

Finally, the cycling club "Solidarity" Wartenberg was able to hold a Pentecost cycle race again and offer the full, tried-and-tested program.

Wartenberg – But the people of Wartenberg have not returned completely to normal: the tried and tested, demanding circuit over the market square, Strognstraße, the lower main street – with inclines and changes in level from asphalt to cobblestones – could not be driven this time.

The organizers had to switch to the "Kleinfeld" commercial area, with the start and finish on Thenner Strasse.

Because of the construction site in the middle of town, this will probably have to be the case again next year.

Whether it will stay with this circuit is completely open.

Although the route is easier to drive because the surface has not been changed, experience has also shown one thing: The ambience at the market square with the start and finish in front of the town hall is simply nicer, and more guests come.

The helpers at the route estimated that outside in the commercial area there were only about half the number of visitors at the route as in previous years.

But there was still a lot going on there and there was definitely a racing atmosphere.

The drivers of the first three races in particular would certainly have enjoyed more enthusiastic spectators.

It was young local drivers who presented themselves here.

Above all, the children used the “fat tire race” and fought doggedly for the prizes sponsored by a club member.

Some of the children experienced the excitement of a real competition for the first time.

A young racing cyclist had to be comforted by his mother when the race could no longer be won after a technical defect and the hoped-for non-cash prize was gone.

In general, it was again the domestic economy that increased the attractiveness of the race with material and cash prizes.

The race for amateur riders was primarily the race of solidarity from Wartenberg: around a third of the registered riders came from the host club.

30 laps of 750 meters each were announced.

Florian Reiter drove away from everyone so quickly that he could confidently leave the last and thus double point classification to others.

He had already collected enough points beforehand.

Totally relaxed: Local hero Florian Reiter won the hobby race.

Until shortly before the end, the Wartenberger had already collected so many rating points and fought for such a clear lead that he was able to roll out easily at the end.

However, those responsible had to learn that the flat and continuously asphalted circuit did not rule out accidents: the race of the amateur riders had to be stopped until the rescue service was back off the track with a fallen and moderately injured rider.

The Johanniter from Wartenberg, supported at times by the DLRG Wartenberg, were on duty here and quickly on the spot.

Roland Rädler from Wangen was in the lead in the amateur license race, and Florenz Knauer from the 54x11 team from Baiersdorf prevailed in the elite amateur license race.

Wartenberger were not at the start here.

Til Rieger was the man at the microphone, and he will have a lot more to say in the coming year: that is when the Whitsun cycle race, which was then proposed by Mayor Gustav Weltrich, will be held for the 25th time.

And this anniversary should of course be celebrated in a fitting manner.
