The classic Germany against England ends 1-1.
The English press is happy with the result, celebrating Harry Kane and crying for Jamal Musiala.
Munich – The otherwise biting English press landscape is unanimous in its assessment that the draw of the Three Lions in Munich is one of the happier kinds.
Not completely undeserved, but quite happy due to the course of the game.
The German opening goal in the 51st minute was only equalized by the English national team in the 88th minute with Harry Kane's penalty.
"Harry Kane's late penalty saves England a point in the Nations League," concludes the English
Daily Mail
.
Germany vs England: Harry Kane celebrated for 50th goal
But Kane not only converted the penalty kick itself, but also got it out against Nico Schlotterbeck.
Kane transforms the slight - certainly punishable - contact into a somewhat exaggerated flight interlude.
Even Thomas Müller was surprised after the final whistle.
But even this behavior, which is actually frowned upon on the island, is
forgiven by the English press for the "future Sir Harry" (
The Sun ).
More importantly, with 50 goals for England, he is now just three adrift of record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
Nevertheless, the British gazettes knew how to classify the result given the course of the game and were not sparing in their praise for the DFB team.
The voices from England:
"Even though they've been outplayed for long stretches by technically superior Germans, the Three Lions always have an advantage when the Tottenham striker [Harry Kane] is there." - The Sun
"But as this is our future Sir Harry, let's just call it professionalism and we're delighted to have scored 50 goals in just 71 internationals." - The Sun, referring to Kane's lack of steadfastness in the penalty spot
"Southgate can be more than happy with the point." - The Guardian
“Did England deserve the point here?
Maybe given the way they got back to their usual game in the closing stages.” - Daily Mail
"The hosts were the better team and thought they were on the road to victory thanks to a goal from Borussia Mönchengladbach's midfielder Jonas Hofmann in the second half." - Mirror
Jamal Musiala: A whole nation mourns the midfield strategist
If you look at the English game reports about the encounter between the two great football powers, you notice one thing above all: the English are really annoyed that Jamal Musiala is playing for Germany.
The youngster still played for the English national team in the U21s.
To the chagrin of the English, the midfielder came up trumps when he met his training nation.
The press reviews for the Bayern player are more praising and benevolent than evil due to the transferred nation.
Almost everyone in England seems to be proud that he at least has an English past.
"Musiala has excellent ball control in tight spaces, he looks like he could tunnel an octopus in a phone box and England couldn't get him under control." - The Sun
"Jamal Musiala, the former England Under-21 midfielder, created a threat down the left flank and his magic feet made it impossible to miss." - The Guardian
"Teenage Jamal Musiala - once a youth player in England - impressed..." - Daily Mail
"Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala put in an excellent performance for Germany and left England fans in awe of what would have been possible had he twirled in England's midfield." - Mirror
