During the interrogation of Joseph Blatter in the trial on suspicion of fraud and other crimes, the most scandalous award of the 2022 World Cup was also discussed.
Bellinzona - In the last question from the presiding judge, Blatter was asked to answer who he voted for in 2010.
This was a secret vote, said the 86-year-old former FIFA President with a wink, but then quickly replied: "I voted for the USA."
This is what Blatter has said in the past.
However, the World Cup, which will take place in just over half a year, did not go to America, but to Qatar.
Michel Platini voted for the emirate.
In the trial before the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona, Switzerland, apart from the allegation of an illegal payment of two million Swiss francs to Platini, which both deny, there was also talk about...
...the current professional activities of Blatter and Platini
: their time as top officials in football is over.
However, the 86-year-old Blatter emphasized that he is not yet retired.
He was still asked to give speeches or lead discussions.
However, he no longer has a “profitable job”.
Platini (66) stated that he did not work.
... their financial circumstances
: When asked about their income, both referred to their tax documents.
At least Blatter made a specific statement about the monthly expenses: he estimated this to be 25,000 euros.
This also includes the rent for an apartment at his place of work and tax residence in Zurich.
