A day after the claim that the Ecuadorian team shared a player's legally during the World Cup qualifiers, FIFA announced that there was no violation of the rules.
As you may recall, the Chilean team, with the help of their lawyers, claimed that Byron Castiglio was a Colombian at all, who was not legally registered as an Ecuadorian, so his participation in eight qualifiers in the Ecuadorian uniform should lead to her disqualification.
If FIFA had accepted the claim, Ecuador would have been kicked out of the World Cup in Qatar for violating the "illegal player registration" clause, giving way to Chile, which would have won 4 "lost" points from its meetings with Ecuador.
However, FIFA today (Friday) accepted the Ecuadorian association's statement that Castiglio is not a Colombian but an Ecuadorian - the appropriate birth certificate has been presented - so there is no change in plans.
Due to FIFA's decision, Ecuador will fly to Qatar this November, Chile will watch the World Cup from home on television, and this coming Monday the Peru team will face Australia for the last ticket to the World Cup.
