Hapoel Holon Championship Celebrations (Danny Maron)

Fourteen years ago, the ground shook at the Yad Eliyahu Sports Hall when Malik Dixon awarded Hapoel Holon the national championship at the end of the Final Four.

At the end of one of the most exciting seasons of Israeli basketball, the Purples who have just advanced from the national team won a historic championship with one of the best staffs built outside of Maccabi Tel Aviv until then and since.

Already in the days after that championship, it was understandable that the significance of that achievement, for the team that took it at least, is small.

Miki Dorsman moved aside, the more modest Holon won the cup, but almost relegated the following season.

The Purples did not use the same degree to advance.

After that season came Gilboa / Galil and Maccabi Haifa, followed by Hapoel Jerusalem and Maccabi Rishon Lezion, and again Hapoel Jerusalem.

Each of these teams took a championship from Maccabi Tel Aviv, the great empire of Israeli basketball, with some of them presenting very impressive teams.

It is doubtful if the Hapoel Holon Model 2022 exceeds more than one team from that list, it is one of the least glittering champions to have been here, but nonetheless it is a real milestone - another team that has become an empire in a correct and healthy process, and also marks it with a championship.

As someone who accompanied Hapoel Holon a little before that championship in 2008, it is difficult to forget the rituals that accompanied the seasons that followed.

Runs for the municipality to ask for money in the summer, searching for budgets at such and such functionaries and building clearly unimpressive groups, with in the background a dream of a new hall to replace the old tin hall.

There were seasons when players did not receive salaries for months, and the team was on the verge of a general collapse, there was almost a decline in 2010, but the slow fall was reversed and the current empire came out of it.

Holonia, a team with a decades-long tradition of establishing Israeli basketball in a city that loves and loves basketball, owes a lot to Shlomo Isaac and Moti Sasson.

The first, a businessman who came out of basketball and was sucked deep inside, waged wars to gain control of the team, only to move up front of the stage in the last two years but still support big money.

Without the support of Isaac and UNET, it is doubtful that Holon would have managed to get through the difficult days.

The other, a veteran mayor, who in the days of the trash hall was a persona non grata.

The Holon municipality did not transfer funds like the neighbor from Rishon Lezion, but the mayor signed on to build the modern Toto Hall, but he gave the hope and the real future of the current Holon.

So it is true that part of the motivation for building the hall was artistic gymnastics, and the fact that the ceiling in the basketball hall is suitable for international artistic gymnastics competitions, but while in Herzliya, Ness Ziona, Eilat, Netanya and other places were left with small and unworthy halls, Holon was given hope.

Sasson makes sure to get to almost every game in the new hall, and the attitude towards him is completely reversed.

Hapoel Holon is one of the most organized clubs in the country in recent years.

While some of the rivalries in the league are run partly by people on a voluntary basis and some by two to three people, Holon's professional management, and not just the selection of players, is advancing and improving.

From a club that was far from being there for a morality of payments and order, to one where everything is ticking.

Only two of those people who surround the system today were there at that championship in 2008, branding and sales manager Oren Sadeh and veteran fitness coach Amit Goldian.

Even Gadi Rabinovich, the announcer and vice president of communications was not present that season. Thank you for the day he stayed.

The broad base of the team's fans met the new hall in the city in 2015, and despite a terrible premiere season, Holon began to grow.

The line of achievements that Dan Shamir signed until two years ago included the State Cup, the Final Four, and another win in the regular league championship.

On the way to Holon they were not afraid to go to Europe either, and everything until then on low budgets that increased and increased each season.

Climbed and climbed, and approached the great rival from Jerusalem that shrank at the same time as the departure of owner Uri Alon.

This season they reached the Final Four of the Champions League, after being stopped in the quarter-finals last year.

Holon made mistakes along the way - did not get along with Sharon Drucker, was humiliated back from the Corona, and the appointment of Maurizio Buscalia was not successful either.

The Purples learned and corrected.

Stefanos Dadas was a meteoric success story for a season and a half, which could have ended in a championship if the Wall Guard operation had not taken Isaiah Miles from the team.

Guy Goodes had a brave appointment after the fall in Rishon Lezion, an appointment that eventually brought Holon the championship.

This process that Hapoel Holon is going through, of moving forward and correcting mistakes quickly in real time, ensures that the 2022 championship will not be like the 2008 championship. Will fall.

The combination of the warm crowd and the wonderful facility ensures the future of the Purples.

The chance that Holon will win more championships is great, especially in light of reducing the gaps between the league teams and the rich Maccabi Tel Aviv.

If this trend continues, the changes in European basketball may even lead Holon to new challenges that currently seem too big and far away for it.

Hapoel Holon's crowd is its strength.

Is the power that does not let her give up both in the hard days, and in the good days.

This audience, which, as must be complimented, should be mentioned as the ugly cases of violence attributed to it and would have been better off if they had disappeared from the world, ensuring that Holonia would remain an empire for many years to come.
