The disappointment is great: TSV Schongau missed promotion to the district class.

The decision in the relegation game against Eching was made in a crazy penalty shootout.

Issing – The Schongau fan club, which had consistently supported their team loudly in the 120 minutes before, tried everything again.

"Let's go, Holzi, let's go," chanted the good three dozen women and men when their first shooter scored the point in the penalty shoot-out.

The addressee, Daniel Holzmann, took a two-step run-up and shot – the ball hit the left post.

FSV Eching continued to lead 1-0.

At that point at the latest it was clear that the promotion of TSV Schongau to the district class was simply not to be that evening.

A few minutes later, after more than three hours of relegation battles in the Issinger Waldstadion, it was actually clear that the A class had been denied the leap up.

The Schongau team lost to FSV Eching on penalties 3-0 (0-0, 0-0), leaving the Ammersee team in the district class.

It wasn't due to a lack of support: the Schongau fan club created a lot of atmosphere throughout the game and cheered on the team.

"It would be nice if I could say we were worse," said a visibly touched TSV coach Peter Mahl.

His team "played great".

It is a pity "that this was not rewarded".

It is now important to see "that we get the boys back in shape".

First of all, distance should help: According to Mahl, his players should not be involved with football for a few weeks now.

In the coming season "we'll step on the gas again," promised the coach.

On the longed-for path to the top, “we lost another year,” Mahl stated with frustration.

The Corona season before that, which lasted from 2019 to 2021 and in which TSV, second in the table, just missed promotion, “was lost time”.

Looking ahead to the coming season, Mahl said, "we know where to start": the hit rate needs to be increased.

"If you don't score the goals, it will catch up with you in the end," said Mahl.

TSV Schongau hits the inside post

There was no goal against Eching, even on penalties.

After Holzmann shot the post, it became completely absurd.

Eching increased to 2:0.

FSV keeper Toni Franz parried the shot from Schongau's Roman Schwarz. The referee had the attempt repeated, apparently because the goalkeeper had moved too early.

Schwarz shot to the left again, and Franz made another save. After that, Eching hit the post, and there was hope in Schongau.

Now Clemens Riedl stepped up for TSV – keeper Franz also fended off this shot.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

"I once experienced such a series of saves in a shoot-out at the indoor championships," said Franz with a smile.

He himself was "quite relaxed" in the penalty shoot-out.

"You can't lose anything as a goalkeeper." The game was ultimately lost for the Schongau team after Eching's Markus Lachmayr scored to make it 3-0.

Penalties "is always a matter of luck," said TSV coach Mahl.

TSV Schongau: On the last groove into the decisive game

In the case of the Schongauers, there was a lot of bad luck and a bit of inability that evening.

During the regular season and also in extra time, the A-class player had numerous top-class chances.

But the result was not there, even the impressive number of 21 corners within 120 minutes of play did not lead to anything.

Striker Jasmin Dedic, in particular, kept appearing in a good position in front of the Echinger box.

After Markus Schleich's cross, he came a step too late (19'), then he just missed a header following a corner (23').

Dedic was just a few millimeters short of scoring: Schongauer took aim and the ball hit the inside of the post (24').

Eching's goalkeeper Franz was also very lucky in defending against Andreas Stöckler's shot (45').

Schongauer anger about not given penalty

In the second half of the game, Schongau continued to have better opportunities.

Clemens Riedl shot right at the goalkeeper after a corner kick (51st).

As a result, the game flattened out.

Schongau had more possession, but clear opportunities remained scarce for a long time.

In the final phase - Eching was visibly running out of strength - things were happening again in front of the gates.

Holzmann, instead of shooting himself, aimed across;

Dedic's shot was blocked (74').

After that, Holzmann was brought down in the penalty area and the referee's whistle was silent (80').

"That annoys me.

We were denied a clear penalty,” Mahl complained.

A penalty kick, the TSV coach was certain, "would have decided the game."

Eching shortly before the end with a huge chance for a free kick

In the final phase, Eching almost managed the “lucky punch”: TSV goalkeeper Matthias Höpfl responded brilliantly (88') to Dominik Schmid's full free-kick shot from 25 meters out.

In injury time, Holzmann and Dedic both failed because of FSV keeper Franz. After an unfortunate action in the second half - he twisted his ankle and got a cramp - he was no longer able to walk properly.

The extension, repeatedly interrupted because of treatments, lived mainly from the tension.

Schongau was much closer to a goal.

Dedic, Riedl and the busy Almahdi Alissa absolutely didn't get the ball.

In injury time, Dedic, played by Holzmann, had the final chance - somehow keeper Franz managed to get the foot there.
