England missed revenge for losing the final of the European Football Championship against Italy.
335 days after the final, coach Gareth Southgate's side were held to a 0-0 draw by the European champions in the Nations League on Saturday.
Four days after beating Germany 1-1 in Munich and 1-0 at the start in Hungary, England are now bottom of Group 3 with just two points.
At home in Wolverhampton, the English were the better team for long stretches, but were unable to capitalize on it.
A Mason Mount shot in the 9th minute had sent Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to the crossbar with a brilliant effort.
At the other end, keeper Aaron Ramsdale prevented a deficit with a great save against Sandro Tonali.
In Group 4, the Netherlands missed a win after falling 2-0 against Poland in Rotterdam and had to settle for a 2-2 (0-1) draw.
Memphis Depay missed a hand penalty in stoppage time.
Without their world footballer Robert Lewandowski, Matty Cash (18 minutes) and Piotr Zielinski (49 minutes) put the Poles in the lead.
Davy Klaassen (51st) and Denzel Dumfries (54th) ensured the draw.
The favorite Belgians did not get more than a 1-1 (0-0) draw against Wales in Cardiff.
Brennan Johnson (86') equalized the Belgian lead through Youri Tielemans (51') for the hosts.
