The renewal of Gavi shows the precariousness of Barça

The negotiations with the Spanish international midfielder question the salary policy and the price of the latest signings agreed by Joan Laporta

Before starting the holidays, Xavi left a message for Laporta after qualifying Barça for the next Champions League.

“If we don't reinforce ourselves well, we won't be able to compete in any way;

We can't be wrong”, warned the coach to the president of Barcelona.

The coach is no longer worth only halftime signings, those that help to trick the situation, such as when the winter market opens, but he needs to incorporate footballers who help solve structural problems and form the post-Messi team.

The Argentine plays today at PSG, Suárez, Griezmann and even Coutinho also left.

The next one to leave is Dembélé, and then the trip to nowhere undertaken by the club after Neymar's escape in 2017 will end. That collection of 222 million by the Brazilian caused a more negative impact on Barcelona even than that of the 11,000 million pesetas (more than 70 million euros) that he obtained in 2000 from Madrid for Figo.

Barça is today bankrupt rather than bankrupt and it will be difficult for Laporta to heed Xavi's wishes.

The Barça entity has agreed for the time being the signings of Kessié, Milan midfielder, and Christensen, Chelsea defender.

There is a verbal commitment with both footballers whose contracts expire in June and therefore are free: the Ivorian would sign for four seasons, at a rate of about 6.5 million per year, while the Dane's bond would be for five seasons and an annual income of about 5 million.

Neither of them, however, has been able to be registered in the League.

The salary limit blocks Barça's signings.

The club, which is lagging behind its rivals in terms of post-pandemic income, needs to sell assets, transfer players and lower the chips of those who earn the most, without also taking into account the payments still pending with footballers who no longer They are not on the payroll - some very serious as in the case of Messi - or with clubs like Ajax for the sale of Frenkie de Jong - the amount that would remain to be paid would be about 40 million out of a total of 75.

The situation is so extreme that one of the ways to finance the transfers is with the money saved after reducing or deferring the income of the captains for the fourth time since 2020.

Nobody has said anything to Busquets, Piqué and Alba about their salary, surely because the board knows that it will also have to face the amounts that it still owes them, and Sergi Roberto renewed yesterday until 2023. The board's slogan is in any case unequivocal: we must lower the wage bill from 560 to 400 million - which is supposed to Madrid -.

An objective that also conditions the continuity of Gavi.

The 17-year-old international midfielder, whose contract ends in 2023, was determined to renew when the amount of Kessié and Christensen's contracts became known.

Gavi, represented by De la Peña, stopped the negotiations and today his price is increasing due to his participation in the Spanish team and praise from Luis Enrique.

The young man from Los Palacios does not want to be less than Kessié or Araujo,

A youth salary

Gavi, who began the year with a youth record, a salary of around 100,000 euros and a termination clause of 50 million, would like to be treated like the youngsters from the quarry who have improved their contracts in 2022. Pedri, Ansu and Araujo formalized their renewals after being considered capital in a team with many youngsters and veterans, without a middle class, as Xavi wants.

The coach has asked that Umtiti, Braithwaite, Pjanic, Riqui Puig, Mingueza and Lenglet find a way out.

Dembélé is also not counted on and there are doubts about Alves.

The only novelties are Pablo Torre, incorporated from Racing, and Jutglà, transferred for five million to Bruges.

Xavi would also like to have a winger (Raphina), a central defender (Koundé or Koulibaly), full-backs (Marcos Alonso and Azpilicueta) and a striker like Lewandowski.

Barça has already contacted the Pole and there is even talk of a contract of about 10 million while Bayern Munich refers to the link that the player has with the club until 2023. Lewandowski tries to force the situation and offers himself daily while Frenkie de Jong is waiting to see if Manchester United's offer materializes.

There are no registrations if there are no cancellations beforehand, as the economic vice president Eudard Romeu admits to the Sport newspaper: “We work to have

fair play.

For every euro that comes in, three must come out”, he explains after summing up the situation with a figure: “We need 500 million to save Barça”.

The board of directors will propose to the assembly on the 16th to sell 49% of BLM, which manages the stores and markets Barça products, and 25% of the television rights to one or more funds, which will not be the CVC of the League .

The disagreement between Laporta and the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, further complicates the salary limit and Barça's sports policy.

There is no margin for Laporta.

Negotiating deferred salaries and growing contracts, as well as Gavi's valuation, are very complicated when you know that he is waiting to sign Kessié and Christensen and negotiating with Lewandowski.

Xavi will not rest until he has good news from Laporta.

Now he has to fulfill the club after the team reached the Champions zone.
