With only seven players: Aßling goes under - and gets a lot of respect from opponents

BEZIRKSLIGA Because of a wedding, the women from Aßlinger played in minimum numbers - and accepted the 12:1 defeat in sporting terms

Aßling – If the district league women's team had taken a minibus to the away game in Langengeisling, all the players and the entire coaching team could have easily spread out across all nine seats.

Never before has TSV trainer Laszlo Ziegler used the “rump troop” to describe the squad so appropriately and the “emergency team” was so understated at the same time.

"None of those present thought before the game that this game would be played to the end," says Aßling's tour guide.

"It was a matter of time for everyone before one of our players got injured and then dropped out."

As a reminder: Since the Heimelf left Ziegler's transfer request unanswered and six TSV players celebrated Stefanie Hofmann's wedding at the same time, the trained goalgetter Sandra Funkenhauser was only able to direct six field players in front of her as a substitute goalkeeper.

Only an injury-related failure and the minimum number of a "playable team" according to the statutes would have been undercut.

Aßling initially even in the lead

Despite being clearly inferior, showed what fairness means on the field: Goalie Sandra Funkhauser from TSV Aßling.

"We never had to play, a second non-appearance was definitely an option," emphasizes Ziegler.

In the preliminary report, we erroneously outlined Aßling's forced relegation to the lowest league for this scenario, which, according to §29 of the BFV game rules, only takes place after three culpable non-appearances.

"But we wanted to give FC Langengeisling the opportunity to become sporting champions - and make their lives as difficult as possible." The guests initially succeeded surprisingly well.

During a pressure phase, Geisling's goalkeeper lost sight of the overview and the ball played back by her defender, so that Büchsenberger actually took the lead (10').

With four players outnumbered!

"But the FCL was able to play to its advantage over the entire route," said Ziegler.

The FC Langengeislingerinnen also showed great respect for the Aßlinger girls for their fair play after the win and invited them to celebrate.

Before the break alone, Funkenhauser had to get behind him six times in front of 80 spectators, with everyone involved only recognizing five FCL goals as such.

When Johanna Steinmaier's long-range shot jumped off the crossbar just behind the goal line and back onto the field, none of those present complained about the 2:1 (15th minute).

"Only our goalkeeper went to the referee to report the goal", not only the TSV coach was impressed by Funkenhauser's finely calibrated fair play compass, which outshined the predictably clear final score of 12:1.

At the Geislinger Meistersause that followed, the seven women from Aßling received a lot of respect and even more free beer, Ziegler reports with a laugh.

"We left the pitch more than satisfied and proud that we pulled it off together in sport!"
