By pushing Toyota to its limits in qualifying, finishing just four tenths behind the Japanese number 8, the Alpine team seemed armed to overshadow the Japanese giant this weekend at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

But Sunday afternoon, when the public massed on the circuit celebrated the winners on the podium, the mines were very crestfallen in the pit of the n° 36. The crew of the A480, third last year, still suffered the shock of 23rd place, eighteen laps behind the Toyota n°8.
