Article ahead of the last two promotion games to the 2022 World Cup (Sports 1)

Who will get the 31st and penultimate ticket to the World Cup this coming winter?

Tonight (live broadcast in Sports 3) the Australian and Peruvian teams from Asia and South America will meet in Qatar to compete in the intercontinental playoff finals.

The 32nd and final ticket will be awarded tomorrow, when the Costa Rican and New Zealand teams will face off (Tuesday, 21:00, Sport3) in a meeting between the North American and Oceanian delegations.

The Australians arrived in Qatar last week where they beat the UAE 1: 2 in the semi-finals of the playoffs and thus qualified for the World Cup ticket, while Peru secured their place in the meeting thanks to the fact that they finished in fifth place in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Despite the victory over the UAE, Australia has gone through a difficult year and is in constant decline.

After winning all eight matches against Kuwait, Jordan, Nepal and Taiwan in the second qualifying round, in the third round the Sucrose won only four games out of ten and the automatic World Cup tickets were seized at the expense of Saudi Arabia and Japan.

However, thanks to the dramatic victory over the UAE, the sucrose are still dependent on themselves and could face France, Denmark and Tunisia next November at the home stage.

Australia have competed in all the World Cups since 2006 - but after reaching the quarter-finals in Germany, in the next three tournaments they have won only once and have not passed the home stage.

The Australian squad will be without Tom Rogic, a Celtic player who asked to be released due to personal reasons about two weeks ago, but other than that a full squad will be available for Graham Arnold.

The 31st and penultimate World Cup ticket went to Australia: The Sucrose defeated Peru 4-5 on penalties tonight (Monday) after 120 minutes, which ended 0-0, and qualified for the World Cup for the fifth time in a row, preventing the South American team from advancing to the tournament for the second time in a row.

The match, which was held on Qatar soil that is known to host the World Cup, did not rise to a particularly high level.

It was only towards the end of legal time that Australia reached two winking situations, but failed to subdue goalkeeper Pedro Galessa.

Peru, who did not fall short of their opponent in ability, were very close during overtime, but a bump by Edison Flores hit the post.

In the run-up to the penalty shootout, Australian coach Graham Arnold replaced opening goalkeeper Matt Ryan with Andrew Redmine - and the decision justified itself.

Galsa stopped the first kick and put the opponent in great tension, but Luis Advincola, who returned to the squad tonight and made his 106th appearance in the Peru uniform, was stopped in the crossbar in the third kick.

After Aver Mabil scored Australia's sixth kick, Redmine, who caught a lot of attention thanks to his bizarre dance on the goal line before each kick, proved the method worked and deflected Alex Valera's kick to send his team to the World Cup.

Australia, who played against Peru in the home stage in Russia 2018, will meet in the home stage in Qatar the two other teams that shared the house with it: France and Denmark.

Apart from qualifying for the quarterfinals in Germany in 2006, the Sucrose were stopped in the first round in four of the last five World Cups to which they qualified - this time they will hope to return to the knockout.

the progress of the game

Minute 4: Andre Creo raised from the right wing to the head of Gianluca to Padula, who slammed hard but only rubbed the crossbar.

Minute 7: Mitchell Duke released a kick with his right foot off the field, but the ball passed near the right crossbar.

Minute 16: Aaron Moy raised a corner, Jackson Irwin slammed high over the bar.

69 min: Christian Cueva bursts into a dribble from the left and kicks under the guard of a player, his attempt stopped on the outside net.

85 min: Aziz Bahich tried on the right foot from a distance, but only managed to rub the pillar from the outside.

88 min: Left-back Aver from Bill burst onto the wing and took out a wide delivery that found Aydin Khrustic, the latter almost subduing Pedro Galessa who managed to catch the ball on the goal line.

It almost put Australia in the lead.

106 min: Edison Flores finds Cuba in a wide ball, who tries to kick with a touch from an extension but does it not accurately enough.

108th minute: Christopher Gonzalez raised from the left wing, Flores rose above them all and hit an excellent shot - but the crossbar prevented him from taking the lead.
