Former tennis world number one Serena Williams has hinted at her comeback for the grass classic in Wimbledon (June 27th to July 10th) after a year's break.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner wrote on Instagram on Tuesday: »SW and SW19.
it's a date
2022 See you there.
Here we go".
SW19 stands for the London borough of Wimbledon where the tournament is taking place.
The 40-year-old Williams published the image of two legs in tennis shoes on the lawn.
She left it open whether Williams really wanted to compete in singles or play the doubles competition.
In her post, she also referred to the lawn tournament in Eastbourne next week.
Maybe the American will return to the tour there.
Williams has not played since she gave up against Belarusian Alexandra Sasnovich in the first round of the 2021 traditional grass tournament.
The 40-year-old is currently in 1208th place in the world rankings.
Return possible by wildcard
Williams was missing from the registration list for Wimbledon that the organizers published a week and a half ago.
However, she can still apply for a wildcard and celebrate her return.
Due to her long absence from the professional tour, there had also been speculation of a possible impending retirement.
With another Grand Slam title, Serena Williams would equal Australia's Margaret Court's record of 24 titles.
