The Football Federation equalizes the percentages of the premiums of the women's and men's teams, but they will not charge the same

The president, Luis Rubiales, and the captains of Spain announced the agreement that had been under negotiation for months

The Spanish women's team takes another important step in its development.

He does not do it in the field, but in the offices.

Still very far, in any case, from the masculine.

The Federation announced on Tuesday that it will equalize the economic conditions of the women's and men's teams: both teams will receive the same percentage in the prizes distributed by both UEFA and FIFA.

However, although the European body decided to distribute 16 million in the Women's Euro this summer (double that in the 2017 edition), the men's Euro Cup delivered 371 million in 2021. "The money that reaches the women's categories is much lower the one that reaches the boys”, assured Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF.

The Federation also assured that the image rights that the soccer players will receive are regularized and improvements in working conditions are achieved.

“It is important to clarify that the Federation does not pay salaries or allowances.

Premiums and premium advances will be paid.

All the players will have a percentage of the sponsorships that arrive from now on.

The distribution that is made of this percentage is already up to them”, Rubiales remarked.

The Federation has global agreements, for all its teams, such as Adidas.

In that case, the money to be distributed between the male and female teams will be the same, they explain in the federation.

However, not all sponsors are the same on both teams.

“Soccer players in recent decades have always enjoyed this compensation for image rights.

In 2018 we saw that women did not have it and we wanted to put an end to this”, warned Rubiales.

In 2019, for example, it was the first time they had a remuneration in that section.

“That amount begins to improve from this year and retroactively.

It has already improved by 20% and the increase will reach 80% in 2027," the president detailed.

In that sense, the masculine still receives more money than the feminine.

In the Las Rozas press room, in any case, the pact was classified as "historic".

This was explained by the players, the union representative and, of course, also Luis Rubiales.

“Today is a historic day.

On behalf of all the players, I wanted to thank the Federation for being able to reach such an important agreement, and to demonstrate with facts its interest in continuing to push our senior team”, explained Irene Paredes, captain of the Red.

“It's historic.

We speak of nothing more and nothing less than equality and sharing conditions with our colleagues”, added Amanda Gutiérrez, lawyer for FutPro, the first union dedicated to women's soccer.

And Rubiales concluded: “It is an important day.

The deal is at the forefront of world football.”

Negotiations between the captains of the women's team and representatives of the federation began last year.

"At all times the federation has been predisposed," said Amanda Gutiérrez.

“But”, clarified Rubiales;

“they have been long”.

The conversations had a singularity: the players asked to be advised by FutPro, as well as by Reyes Bellver, a lawyer specializing in sports law.

"It has been a novelty, it was always done directly with the players and the players", added the president of the Federation.

The pact will have a duration of five years, which is expected to reach the next two Europeans - the first begins on July 6 in England and the second will be played in 2025 - and the world championships in 2023 and 2027. "Hopefully for the Games Olympics”, concluded Rubiales.

The first thing Reyes Bellver did when he received the call from the captains of the national team to advise them on the negotiations with the federation was to look at the FIFA classification.

“I wanted to analyze what the situation of the best teams was like.

The idea, of course, was to improve economic conditions, but also situations that go beyond premiums, such as travel and commuting," says the lawyer.

In Europe, the change had already begun.

In 2019, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) joined the project promoted jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Union for the promotion of equality between men and women in the field of sport.

The mold, in any case, had been broken by Norwegian Ada Hegerberg when she resigned from her selection in 2017.

That same year, Norway reached an agreement so that the men's and women's teams were paid the same.

Unlike Spain, in the Scandinavian country annual salaries are paid.

The United States, which achieved equality between the two teams last February after three years of disputes, has decided to correct the inequality in FIFA and CONCACAF awards: what is received is pooled and distributed so that men and women charge the same.

Other federations such as Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, England, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Ireland have also reached agreements.

Now Spain joins.

"This is a turning point, but there is still a lot of work to be done," said Reyes Bellver.

“We need all the players to unite to continue improving the rights of soccer players”,

Amanda Gutierrez added.

Irene Paredes concluded: “We want to be the best players, the best team and the best National Team.

We're going to England to give it our all.

We will continue to give our lives for this shirt”.

Spain opposes for the title in the Euro, before traveling to England it has won a (small) battle in equality.{Entradilla}
