Bavarian league ice hockey team Erding Gladiators has filled its second contingent position.
Erding – In addition to the Finn Roni Rukajärvi, the American Ryan Murphy is the second foreigner in coach Andy Becher's team.
The 25-year-old striker comes from league rivals ERSC Amberg.
However, he was recently injured.
"Ryan played in Amberg last year and showed what he can do when he's fit," said Gladiators spokesman David Whitney.
"Especially against Königsbrunn, he really worked his magic." At the time, the new Erdinger coach Becher was behind the gang at the EHC, and Murphy had obviously made a real impression on him.
"We believe that since Ryan already knows the league and is now fit and recovered, he is a real asset," Whitney said, praising the 25-year-old.
"He has unbelievably good hands and great skating technique." In 29 games with Amberg he scored 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists).
And because the new Erdinger gang leader really wanted him, “we entered into negotiations.
The consideration was whether to sign an already well-known player or a completely unknown player who could then become a top or a flop.
We chose Ryan Murphy."
The US boy was also "very likeable" during the negotiations, emphasizes the Gladiators spokesman.
Murphy, who trained at Providence Academy and will wear number 51 with the Gladiators, introduced himself to the Erdingers in a short video message.
"My family and I are so excited about the new season with the Gladiators, my teammates, the coaches and the fans," said the 25-year-old.
"We're looking forward to a great year with many victories." The American will come to Erding in August with his wife and baby, who was born just a few weeks ago.
"We're really excited for him," says Whitney.
