Russian world number one Daniil Medvedev managed to reach the quarter-finals of the German championships Halle, which is held on grass, in the 500-point category.
The 26-year-old Russian qualified after defeating Belarusian player Ia Ivashka in two sets, 7-6, 6-3, within an hour and 35 minutes of the competition.
This is the second victory in a week for Medvedev over Ivashka, after he beat him in the Libima quarter-finals, and is the third in total for one loss.
And the quarter-finals in Halle will witness strong confrontations on Friday, where the German host Oscar Ote will meet the Russian Karen Khachanov, while the other meeting will be between the fourth and fifth seed in the tournament, who are Canadian Felix Auger Eliassim and Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, and Australian Nick Kyrgios will meet his counterpart Spaniard Pablo Carreno Posta.
