The mission promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga begins.

TSV 1860 Munich will start preparing for the new season on Friday afternoon.

Munich – soccer shoes instead of flip-flops, sweating on the lawn instead of at the pools and beaches of European holiday paradises.

For the old and new professionals of TSV 1860, 34 days of vacation come to an end this Friday: At 2 p.m., three hours after the opening press conference, coach Michael Köllner asks for the first performance test.

Many starving fans are likely to turn up, because eight newcomers have raised hopes of promotion.

And: After two years of the pandemic, unrestricted public service at Grünwalder Straße 114 is possible again for the first time.

We will answer questions about the triad at the start with a fitness Friday, a training Saturday and a first show on Sunday in Waldkirchen, Lower Bavaria (4 p.m., live on Löwen-TV on YouTube), the home of Vice President Hans Sitzberger.

How is the process?

On Friday from 2 p.m., Köllner’s kickers will be acclimatizing in small groups on the pitch – “like 30 minutes at a time – “so that they can get used to their football boots again after four weeks.”

Saturday starts in the weight room before the players show up on the pitch in the afternoon.

The bus then continues to Waldkirchen, where up to 3,000 fans can get their first impression of the new team on Sunday: public training in the morning, friendly from 4 p.m.

Köllner: "All the new ones will be used."

Who else is coming?

As reported, Köllner would like two more attacking midfielders.

Joseph Boyamba (25) from SV Waldhof should already be in Munich – he may already be there on Friday.

The trainer wants to leave the other personal details open until there is an opportunity to strike cheaply on the transfer market, possibly by means of a loan deal.

"Maybe we can still get a bargain during the preparations," says Köllner.

who should go

Wobbly candidates are Johann Djayo, Milos Cocic, Kevin Goden and Köllner's stepson Alexander Freitag.

"In the end, it's about putting together the squad so that it's the right size," says the coach.

How far along are the problem children?

In Daniel Wein and Marius Willsch, two fixed sizes have been absent for more or less a year.

Köllner: "Both are currently running their program, both are on target, but neither of them will go directly into team training." A small ray of hope: Both should take part in the complete performance inspection on Friday.

After that, according to the coach, "a special development training" is planned.

Where is it still stuck?

Köllner does not want to talk about a "change", "but we have planned everything where we want to get better".

This also applies to his staff, in which fitness coach Jörg Mikoleit (51) replaces the retired Matthias Luginger (31) – and a successor to assistant trainer Günter Brandl (61) is still being sought.

If this personnel is also filled to Köllner's satisfaction, the coach sees the lions armed: "Then we have the opportunity to attack in such a way that we can formulate the goal of promotion."

Who are the new lion leaders?

Stefan Lex (32), who is not only the third-best scorer in the league but also “important for the cabin climate”, should remain the captain.

Other instances of the team are goalkeeper Marco Hiller (25) and top scorer Marcel Bär (30), both of whom occupy first places in their categories in the “kicker” ranking.

Martin Kobylanski (28) confidently grabbed the "10" that had been idle for two years.

At the very back, the league is jealous of that, king transfer Jesper Verlaat (26) should keep the shop closed together with Semi Belkahia, Leandro Morgalla and Niklas Lang.

And otherwise?

It is becoming apparent that tickets for the DFB Cup hit against Dortmund are being traded like rare stamps.

Good for the fans who get nothing: ZDF will show the first round hit on Friday, July 29, live and in prime time (8:45 p.m.).
