Météo France
has classified the Tarn in heatwave red vigilance and temperatures close to 40°C are expected around 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
This heat wave forced the prefecture of the department to cancel the rally.
“Having 10 to 15,000 people with more than 40 degrees is really not reasonable. Neither for people who could be unwell, nor for our firefighters and for the hospital services who have a lot to do at the moment,”
said François-Xavier Lauch, prefect of Tarn on the antennas of
BFM TV
this morning.
This cancellation causes the disappointment of the fans but also the anger of the traders who were counting on this Friday evening.
The Town Hall of the city strongly opposed the prefectural decision:
"The mayor and the municipality deeply regret this decision and the consequences it entails for all those who had mobilized to make this moment a celebration"
wrote Mayor Pascal Bugis in a statement.
In the Tarn, the prefecture also announced the cancellation of the start of the second cycling stage of the Route d'Occitanie, which was to take place in Graulhet.
