The accommodation of fans at the Winter World Cup in Qatar is proving to be more difficult than expected.

Now the visitors are supposed to sleep in tents in the desert.

Munich – The more than 100,000 hotel rooms available in the desert state of Qatar are not enough for the 1.2 million guests expected during the 2022 World Cup (November 21 to December 18).

Now the Qataris came up with a curious solution.

Omar Al-Jaber, member of the organizing committee, talks about installing a tent city in the middle of the desert.

World Cup 2022 in Qatar: "This is real camping"

The fact that Qatar as the venue for a football World Cup is not such a good idea should have been clear at least since the move to the winter months.

Not to mention the reports of countless dead workers on the construction sites, which is why the German fans at the international match against Italy also raised allegations against FIFA.

Apparently those responsible in Qatar not only have a problem with human rights, but also can't get the infrastructure under control.

Due to a lack of other accommodation, tents are to be erected in the desert to accommodate fans from all over the world.

Al-Jaber advertises it as "real camping," where "people can also experience the desert in a Bedouin-style tent."

Tent cities at the World Cup in Qatar without air conditioning

However, what the member of the organizing committee confidently conceals in his advertising message for the alternative accommodation is that although the necessary supply of water and electricity will be provided, air conditioning is not planned.

So you'll see how fans embrace this offer in a country where temperatures still hit 30 degrees even in December.

However, there will be another 200 tents in southern Qatar, at least for the better-off, that will offer the luxury of air-conditioning.

Since the tents are supposed to be on the beach, they even include a sea view.

Qatar 2022: airlift and hotel ships

Anyone who thought that the tent cities were the end of Qatar's ingenuity was badly mistaken.

It was announced three years ago that fans would be accommodated on two ships off the Qatar coast.

This would at least give visitors the opportunity to get outside the three-mile zone and thus into international waters.

Also a way to circumvent the strict regulations in the country and party carefree at night.

There is also an agreement between Qatar and its friendly neighboring countries about a kind of airlift.

160 shuttle flights to Qatar's neighboring countries are to be offered per day, with which fans can commute between the venues and accommodation.

It seems questionable how the desired climate neutrality of the World Cup can be achieved.

It will only be a matter of time before further expressions of displeasure can be seen in German stadiums.

Last year, Bayern fans showed a protest banner against Qatar, its own board and the connection between the club and the emirate.
