2022-06-17T04:51:59.358Z

The coach of the Hapoel Gilboa / Ma'ainot youth team that won the double, only 30 years old and has already finished 11 seasons on the lines: "I live basketball all the time, I do not feel like I work" • Had time to coach a large part of Israeli basketball's promising talents championship

Yoav Shenkman (30), coach of the youth team of Hapoel Gilboa / Springs, won the treble this season - the high school championship with Ein Harod, and the championship and trophy in the youth super league.

Shenkman, from Moshav Kidron near Gedera, played until the recruitment of Givat Brenner, and already at the age of 20 he turned to coaching.

Last week he finished his 11th season as a coach.

For the first five years he worked in the youth department of Maccabi Ashdod and in the last six years he became one of the most valued professionals at a young age - for two years he worked in the youth department of Maccabi Tel Aviv, then two years at Hapoel Emek Hefer and the last two years at Gilboa.

Among other things, he had talented players such as Noam Yaakov, Ben Sharaf, Niv Lampert, Yoav Berman, Ariel Isaac and Nevo Sommerfeld.

At the same time, he works for the youth teams, now as Sharon Avrahami's assistant on the cadet team.

Next season he will be appointed the professional director of Gilboa / Springs and will continue to coach the youth team on.

Gilboa Springs is the state champion in youth basketball after a victory over Hapoel Ta.

A crazy thriller with children running around on the parquet who were very impressive: Dolinsky from Hapoel Ta (is there a situation he did 13/13 from the line?) In front of Niv Lampert who looks like Prospect, Mintz and Berman from Gilboa.

Another promising name is Gilboa coach Yoav Shenkman who led the team to a double.

What attracted you to the artist from such a young age?

"I really like basketball and working with teenagers. It's important to me to develop young basketball players in Israeli basketball. It's like a disease somewhere. With all the difficulty, the crowded schedule, you love it and live basketball all the time.

"Because I like it, I do not feel at all that I work."

At a relatively young age, you provided and went through a lot in the big youth clubs in Israel.

"A lot of hard work. People see the work, the investment, the desire. I live it. Basketball is not income supplement for me, but almost all of life. I spend a lot of hours during the day and take care of the players. That's how I live. I went through a lot of good coaches. And good professional managers who helped me be where I am. "

Hapoel Gilboa Springs today won the state championship of the 'Periniv' youth league 21/22 and thus completed a double in a great season.

The championship game that took place this afternoon promised and exists - in front of about 1,000 spectators in the full high school hall, we received a high-level basketball game that was balanced and fickle almost its entire length.

What is your philosophy as a coach?

"For me the game should be based on fast pace on both sides of the court, aggressive ball defense based on passes and aggressive blocking treatment. "We have more things we put in on offense, all with the goal of playing at a high pace and getting as many shots as possible, especially threes. That's the direction basketball is going."

You had a great season with winning all the titles.

How do you sum it up?

"When you start the season you do not know how it will end. The season ended sweetly with winning all possible titles, but for us the most special thing is what was created from the team, the connection of the players. There were many highlights and difficulties, and all this time they managed to keep "Togetherness and concentration. That's our secret, we had talented players, but also guys with a special personality, and they always managed to reach the peak of the important moments."

"We expect that from this group there will be some who will be able to make the next leap. We played 72 official games this season, which is not an easy thing, and we managed to create a winning team. Assistant coach Nir Gov has a big part in the team's success."

We see a lot of talented players who are having a hard time making the transition from youth to seniors.

What do you think is the right solution or formula?

"I will

divide the answer into two parts. The first is the clubs and the association, and I think in recent years a good job is done and players come out at a better level. The second part is making the players' decisions. The players have to make the right career decisions "

The stage.

2. A place that will continue to develop them. Once they make the decision according to these parameters, they will progress and go a good way to become mature actors."

What are your goals as a professional director of the department for the coming years?

"Already today the club is progressing and working very well. The professional manager Idan Austria has done an amazing job here and also the manager Liran Winkor gives all the shell needed. I want to continue the work, give the players everything they need, both professionally and all around - Nutritionist, physiotherapists, fitness trainers, mental.

It is very difficult to produce players and bring them to the top leagues in Israel, so we want every year to help as many players as possible get ready for the next stage of their careers.

Our goal is to develop better basketball players and people. "

In the end, it was Hapoel Gilboa Springs with important points from the penalty line that managed to maintain a slight advantage on the way to a 99:95 victory at the end - and historic championship celebrations for the club that complete a double with the trophy.

What are your personal goals for the future?

"First of all, I want to continue to enjoy what I do. Someday I will want to coach a senior. I will try to work my way up to be a senior basketball coach. I am not in a hurry anywhere, anything will happen in his time and in the right situation. I have a lot more experience to gain."
