The decision to move on to gymnastics at age 7 ("I was very flexible"), the resemblance to Ashram who also lived in Rishon LeZion ("I trained under her in the gym and wanted to be like her") and the 11th grade matriculation ("luckily I finished this year").

"Storm in the Kingdom" with the youth team (Sports 1)

Medals in artistic gymnastics have become commonplace here in Israel.

Less than a year has passed since Linoy Ashram took the podium in Tokyo and scooped the gold medal in a major battle at the Olympics.

But even if the Israeli national anthem is a routine thing in the gym, not every day and not every year does a 16-year-old girl in total go out and take the whole box office at the European Senior Championships.

Daria Atmanov from western Rishon Lezion, a native of Israel and a daughter of parents who immigrated from Uzbekistan, made history today when she won first place at the European Championships in artistic gymnastics held in Tel Aviv and brought Israel a gold medal when she was only an 11th grader at the Real Gymnasium in Rishon Lezion.

How did it all start, Daria?

"It started with a dance class near the house in Rishon Lezion that also combined flexibility and spaghetti. Then the teacher said: 'Look how flexible she is. You should go try artistic gymnastics.' "I really understood that this is the field I want to work in. That artistic gymnastics is for me."

When was the moment when you said to yourself that you could win the European Championship for seniors and already at such a young age?

"I do not think there was a moment like that when I thought about the European Championships for seniors, but I was always with Linoy Ashram (seven years older than Matmanov) and trained under her so I saw what she was doing and she was the role model for me."

"I have more training to do after this interview."

When you saw Linoy at the Tokyo Olympics, did you tell yourself I wanted to get there too?

"Linoy made me work harder because I knew there was room to aspire, but I never thought too far. As soon as I saw the competition in Tokyo and Linoy's gold, I said in my heart that I too want to be in these places one day. An Olympic medal is every athlete's dream ".

It is a sport that requires a lot of investment on the part of the parents and they are certainly in the clouds today.

"Sure yes. It must be a very sweet moment for my parents."

It comes with genes from the family?

"No, not really. It's just me."

You are in the 11th grade and you must be in the matriculation exam this year. How will you make this transition from European champion at the age of 16 to school?

"I have a matriculation exam, of course, but this year I have already finished. I study during the competitions at the Real Gymnasium. The studies do not contradict the training. I study at my own pace with help from Tomashin in Rishon Lezion. I get all the help I need in my studies."

Is there another appetite for the finals tomorrow in singles after the gold medal in a great battle on all devices together?

"Yeah, definitely. We'll see tomorrow how it goes after tonight. I have more training to do after this interview."

From now on it will be harder to walk around the malls in Rishon Lezion and Cinema City, but it could also be more fun.

"I still do not know what to say about it, because it is new to me but I also want at this moment and maybe especially in this moment to thank the Hapoel Rishon Lezion Association for everything it has done for me all these years, the gymnastics association, the Olympic Committee, my coaching staff and everyone who helped and supported In me all these years.
