Despite remaining in the elite, the Merlus coach was dismissed by the club's management when he still had two years left in his career.

Hard return from vacation for Christophe Pelissier.

Barely returned from a trip to Sicily, the coach of FC Lorient learned of his dismissal by President Loïc Féry on Saturday evening.

The management of the Breton club has already chosen the person who will succeed him: it is Régis Le Bris.

The club's academy director won his professional coaching license last month and is expected to be officially announced in his new role soon.

At the club for ten years, he has seen promising generations like those of Mattéo Guendouzi, Claudie Maurice, Denis Bouanga and Illan Meslier.

It now remains for the Lorient club to find a financial agreement with Christophe Pelissier, who still had two years of contract left and who is leaving with the three assistants who made up his staff (Jean-Marie Stéphanopoli, Julien Outrebon, Olivier Lagarde).

The divorce should not exceed 4 million euros for Lorient which has just validated its accounts with the DNCG, the financial policeman of professional football clubs.

A final season not convincing enough

Arrived in 2019 from Amiens, Christophe Pelissier had obtained a rise in his first season on the bench of Hakes before ensuring two consecutive maintenances in the elite.

The second will have been fatal to the continuation of his adventure in Breton lands with a 2021-2022 exercise ended with a 16th place and 36 points with five small units in the relegation zone.

While four clubs will go down to Ligue 2 at the end of next season in order to prepare for the new Ligue 1 format with 18 clubs, the Lorient management felt that it was time to move on.

However, Christophe Pelissier was rather serene about his continuity at the head of his workforce.

From the end of the season at the end of May, President Loïc Féry had reinforced him in his mission by invoking the objectives achieved.

The leaders of the club were finally quick to begin a reflection on his replacement which resulted in the appointment of Régis Le Bris.

As soon as training resumes on June 27, the new coach will also have under his command his nephew, Théo Le Bris, little used by his predecessor.
