Moshe (Boogie) Ya'alon will head "Special Olympics" | Israel today

The former defense minister and chief of staff will head the organization, which aims to promote equality and prevent discrimination through sports.


The "Special Olympics" organization contacted Moshe (Boogie) Ya'alon and asked him to take the position voluntarily, and the former defense minister and chief of staff accepted the offer.

In 2020, "Special Olympics" Israel was recognized as an association.

Its goal is to promote equality and prevent discrimination through sport, and to empower the ability of people with intellectual, developmental and communicative disabilities.

The association represents thousands of athletes in Israel, after receiving approval for proper management and two years of extensive activity.

Moshe (Boogie) Ya'alon:  

"Our value duty as human beings in a modern society is to do everything possible to express in practice the opportunity given to people with disabilities of all kinds.

The Special Olympics athletes are an example and role model of determination, courage and individual and team achievement against all odds.

As someone who closely accompanies the disabled IDF athletes, as someone who has supported and accompanied hundreds of people with disabilities in their recruitment and service in the IDF, and in the past also headed the Shekel Association (community services for people with special needs), I see paramount, value and educational importance in doing That will allow them to prove themselves, achieve achievements and continue to win, together with their families, as they win every day in their very difficult struggle.

I will do my best for society in Israel to recognize them and their rights for them, and for us as a society. "
