Lars and Sven Bender are moving to the German Football Association.

The twins from Brannenburg will be assistant coaches for the juniors.

Munich – The Bender twins found a new job at Bayer 04 Leverkusen a year after the end of their careers.

The two 33-year-olds will become assistant coaches in the U-section of the German Football Association.

The association announced this on its website on Friday afternoon.

"Football has given us a lot and ultimately shaped our entire life so far," the two ex-national players are quoted as saying on the DFB website after their performance.

"We needed a break after our career and realized that we now want to give something back." Lars becomes assistant coach of the U15 and strengthens the team of Marc-Patrick Meister and Mario Himsl.

His younger brother Sven assists Michael Prus and Janis Hohenhövel in the U16 national team.

“We have questioned a lot in our active careers and are happy to take on responsibility.

Now it is time to take them on in a new role.”

Lars and Sven Bender about their new job at the DFB.

The call from the association came "just at the right time".

“During the interviews, we found that the way we work and the topics correspond to what we would like to convey.

We have questioned a lot in our active careers and are happy to take on responsibility.

Now it's time to take them on in a new role.

We believe that with our experience, we can give the young talents a lot to take with them on their journey to becoming a professional."

Sounds similar to the role that many TSV 1860 fans wish for the two ex-professionals.

A few days ago it was still said that the Benders were returning to Grünwalder Straße - as mentors in the youth academy and representatives of the lions.

It is not yet known whether the commitment to her training club has burst.

Assistant coaches at the DFB: Lars and Sven Bender should be role models and set an example

The world's largest sports association is happy about the coup: "The fact that we were able to win over two really good guys in Lars and Sven makes us incredibly proud," says Joti Chatzialexiou.

“I know them both from their time as U-national players and was able to closely follow their development into Bundesliga players and senior national players.

You could tell early on that they would bring a lot to the table.” The sporting director of the national teams particularly emphasized their way of thinking as players and coaches and the personalities of the two twins: “Young people need role models who have these values not only to preach, but also to set an example.

This is exactly what Sven and Lars stand for.”

Ninth new Lion signing: Boyamba comes, Stefan Reisinger becomes assistant coach

Meikel Schönweitz, head coach of the U-national team, is happy about the reinforcements in the coaching team: “We want to continue installing our three different types of coaches in all teams.

In addition to the Innovation type and the Age Specialist type, there is also the Experience type.

With the signing of Lars and Sven, we have again been able to gain two former players who bring enormous experience to the table.”

Last season, after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, the veterans caused a lot of euphoria in the district class and celebrated their comeback at their home club.

Lars made 15 appearances for TSV Brannenburg and scored three goals, Sven had 13 touches and hit the bull's eye once.

So far it is unclear whether the new task can be reconciled with another season in the amateur field.
