They did it: The basketball players of TSV Jahn Freising triumphed twice against Regensburg - and thus remain in the Bavarian league.

Freising

- It's done!

The basketball players of TSV Jahn Freising still managed to stay up in the Bavarian league thanks to the short-term relegation.

They clearly won the first leg at Regensburg Baskets on Friday evening with 76:57 (39:25) - and the second leg on Sunday even more clearly with 79:57 (46:19).

"We've proven that we belong in the Bayernliga," said Freising's head coach Michael Buhl.

"I hadn't thought that there could be such a relegation," said Jahn department head Michaela Ruis.

About a week ago, when she looked at the new division of leagues, she realized that there was actually still a place available in the Bavarian leagues.

So she asked the association.

This then set the decision games between Freising and Regensburg at short notice - and the Jahn team used this opportunity brilliantly.

Clear case: If the Freisinger basket hunters had played as well as against the Oberpfälzer at least from time to time during the season, they would not have needed the relegation.

"We put a lot of energy into both games and were just mentally stronger," emphasized player Tim Peisker.

Freising forces Regensburger to their knees

The Freisingers laid the foundation for staying up in the league on Friday evening in Regensburg.

There, however, a lot of work was necessary to bring the home side to their knees with a difference of 19 points.

Because in the third quarter, Freising's clear lead melted away - the game threatened to tip over.

"But we kept our cool in this critical phase and were then able to improve again," reports Coach Buhl.

The fact that Regensburg would not give in after this defeat was evident in the first quarter of the second leg.

Jahn assistant coach Denis Rühmann was right in his assessment: "After such a clear victory in the first leg, we now have a very difficult task ahead of us." Until shortly before the end of the first half, it actually looked as if it could be become a tight box again.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

But TSV Jahn fought back, Oliver Stojanovski's two threes shortly before the end of the first quarter seemed like a liberating blow to the Jahn team.

And in the second period, the hosts were unstoppable: Freising were concentrated on defense, and on offense they combined excellently and used their throwing chances as ice-cold.

The 33 points in the second quarter were a real announcement.

“A beautiful second quarter”

Freising's power play only leveled off towards the end of the third round.

In this phase, the Regensburgers came up again - but in the end the Jahn basket hunters didn't let anything burn.

They found their rhythm back - and so nothing stood in the way of an extensive victory celebration.

"I am very pleased that our team is staying in the Bayernliga," said Jahn chairman Franz Lupp afterwards.

"After a nervous initial phase, our team played a wonderful second quarter.

Now the team has to work on staying in the Bayernliga next season.”

Head coach Michael Buhl was also relieved: "We took our chance - thanks to a solid team performance both in the first leg and in the second leg." After these two wins, Buhl is certain that his team will start the upcoming game with a lot of energy Preparation for the new round of points will go.

"If we continue like this, the team will be able to keep up in the upper third of the Bayernliga."
