Three days have passed since the opening of the World Swimming Championships, and only tonight (Monday) we were privileged to receive a first world record in Budapest, with the person responsible for it being the Italian Thomas Chacon in the 100-meter backstroke.
The 21-year-old Chakon, the silver medalist in the Tokyo Apostles, set an incredible 51.60 seconds, breaking the record of American Ryan Murphy in 25 hundredths of the 2016 Rio Olympics, which Murphy came second with just 51.97 seconds and third with his compatriot Hunter Armstrong. With 51.98 seconds.
After winning gold in the 400-meter freestyle, American Katie Ladki became the world champion, achieving her second gold in the Hungarian capital, this time in the grueling 1500-meter ointment, after setting a time of 15: 30.15 minutes and her great joy could be seen in the water.
The U.S. delegation celebrated another gold, this time by Regan Smith who did it in the women’s 100-meter backstroke, when she touched the wall after 58.22 seconds.
The new world champion in the 200-meter freestyle is the Romanian David Popovic with 1: 44.40 minutes.
