The pool at the Donna Arena in Budapest shook with joy tonight (Tuesday), after local hero Christoph Milak smashed the world record in the 200-meter butterfly.
The Olympic champion from Tokyo led all the way, with the red stripe showing the current record, always behind him, finally touching the wall after 1: 50.34 minutes.
By doing so, he improved by 39 hundredths his previous record from the 2019 World Cup in South Korea.
When he received $ 50,000 for the record, and when he had a hard time getting the words out of his mouth, the freshman managed to say, "This is my home, my city, my pool. The audience was with me and I did not want to disappoint him today."
The exciting moment of the evening came in the 800-meter freestyle final, where the American Robert Fink won with 7: 39.36 minutes, but in third place came the Ukrainian Mikhail Romanchuk with 7: 39.63 minutes, who cried on the podium and marked his country's flag.
