Miroslav Klose really wants Altach.

In the tz interview, the World Cup record scorer talks about his new job and what role FC Bayern played.

Altach - The white tablecloth in front of Miroslav Klose threw a number of creases, but the wobbly regular table pennant of SCR Altach remained steadfast.

The ambience at the self-proclaimed village club was actually not worthy of the World Cup record scorer, who was seated in the crowded room at the front.

But that didn't bother Klose at all.

"I'm allowed to work where others vacation.

I really feel like it," said the SCR's new hope at his presentation on Monday.

The 44-year-old spoke to our newspaper about how this came about and what he intends to do.

Mr. Klose, many were surprised by your first head coaching position...

I am totally convinced that this is the right step for me.

I have the feeling that together we can make a difference.

We have a lot of work ahead of us.

Miroslav Klose new coach at SCR Altach: Jochen Sauer from FC Bayern makes initial contact

How did the contact come about?

Jochen Sauer (head of the Bayern campus, editor's note) told me that Altach was interested.

But he didn't tell me anything about the club.

Basically, I don't want to be remote-controlled and would rather get an impression for myself.

I have a good feeling for people, I think that's where my strength lies.

I had a good feeling at Altach.

There should also have been talks with your ex-club Kaiserslautern, right?

I played with Thomas Hengen, Olaf Marschall is chief scout, my family lives there.

Of course there were discussions – but only loosely.

How did you prepare for your new job?

For a year I looked at various things that structured the content from my training as a football teacher, because I didn't know whether I was getting an offensive or defensive team, for example.

"Of course, my goal must be to be on the line in the Bundesliga and the Champions League at some point.

I make no secret of it.”

Miroslav Klose.

Do you feel pressure now?

I put myself under a lot of pressure.

I have clear ideas.

But it's also clear that I have to adapt and lower my expectations a bit.

I know where I want to go.

But time doesn't matter.

Where do you want to go?

Altach is now the right step.

Then we'll see how far we can go.

Of course, my goal must be to be on the line in the Bundesliga and the Champions League at some point.

I make no bones about it.

But the first steps are the decisive ones.

You learned the job from scratch, right?

I was assistant coach at Hansi Flick, two years before that I was assistant to Jogi Löw.

I have coached numerous youth teams.

experience is already there.

Ultimately, I'm in men's sport now.

There are new things to consider.

The trainer education in Germany is so good that you get a lot of tools in your pocket.

It's up to you which one you pull out at the right moment.

I know I can give the team a lot.”

“Louis van Gaal, from whom I was able to take an incredible amount tactically with me, and Otto Rehagel, as one of the most successful coaches of his generation, had a great influence on me as a player.”

Miroslav Klose.

Which coach did you take away the most from?

I am thinking of Jogi Löw and Hansi Flick.

You have the package I always talk about: Top notch in terms of both work and people.

As a player, Louis van Gaal, from whom I was able to take an unbelievable amount of tactics with me, and Otto Rehagel, as one of the most successful coaches of his generation, had a great influence on me.

I always pulled out certain things.

Many roads lead to Rome.
