National ice hockey player Moritz Seider has been voted Rookie of the Year in the North American professional league NHL.

The 21-year-old from the Detroit Red Wings received the Calder Trophy on Tuesday for strong performances in his debut season.

Overall, he had 50 points and gave 43 assists.

He led the rankings among rookie defenders.

"It's crazy," said Seider, after his award for the best young player of the season: "I'll definitely have some time to reflect and I'll probably do that when I'm at home with my parents.

Just sit outside and have some great conversations.

Everything is going very fast at the moment.«

Seider (1853 points) clearly won the election.

Second was Anaheim Ducks' Trevor Zegras (1191) ahead of Toronto Maple Leafs' Michael Bunting (877).

Seider was trained in Mannheim

Seider was trained at Adler Mannheim, where he made the leap into the professional team in 2018/19.

At the end of the season, the then 17-year-old was voted Rookie of the Year in the German Ice Hockey League.

He was then selected sixth in the 2019 draft, the annual talent fair.

Previously only superstar Leon Draisaitl was selected by the German player.

First Seider played in the Red Wings training team, last year he was loaned to Rögle BK in Sweden, where he just missed the championship title.

In this season he finally made his breakthrough in the strongest league in the world - crowned by the award for the best young player of the year.

An honor given to Seider as the first German.

Auston Matthews becomes MVP

At the last World Cup in Helsinki in May, Seider played well, but missed the semi-finals with the DEB team after a 4-1 loss against the Czech Republic.

Now Seider will continue to lead German ice hockey together with Draisaitl and Tim Stützle, 20, from the Ottawa Senators.

On the other hand, Seider also wants to make further progress with his Red Wings in the future, in the past season the team missed the playoffs for the sixth time in a row.

Meanwhile, the award for Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season was secured by superstar Auston Matthews of the Leafs.

The 24-year-old led the scoring charts with 60 goals, beating Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) and goalie Igor Shestjorkin (New York Rangers).
