Klose takes over SCR Altach and is already thinking ahead: "I want to be in the Champions League"

Miroslav Klose really wants Altach.
In the tz interview, the World Cup record scorer talks about his new job and what role FC Bayern played.
Altach – Altach has just 7000 inhabitants, the social highlight is the gourmet market every 14 days in the heart of the community – and of course the SCR, which has been playing in the Austrian Oberhaus since 2014.
This is exactly where Miroslav Klose gets his first chance as a coach in professional football.
"Something should be created here, and I want to contribute to that," says the 44-year-old.
That he ended up in the provinces?
No problem: "I work where others go on vacation." The tz interview with the ex-Bayern coach:
You learned the coaching job from scratch – what can you bring to the team as a newcomer to head coaching?
I was assistant coach at Hansi Flick, two years before that I was assistant to Jogi Löw.
I have coached numerous youth teams for this – experience is already there.
Ultimately, I'm in men's sport now.
There are new things to consider.
The trainer education in Germany is so good that you get a lot of tools in your pocket.
It is then up to you which one you get out at the right moment.

There were also talks with ex-club Lautern...
I played with Thomas Hengen, Olaf Marschall is chief scout, my family lives there.
Of course there were discussions – but only loosely.
Is it true that Bavaria's campus boss Jochen Sauer was active in mediation?
He told me that Altach was interested.
But he didn't tell me anything about the club.
Basically, I don't want to be remote-controlled and would rather get an impression for myself.
I have a good feeling for people and I think that's where my strength lies.
I had a good feeling at Altach.

Which coach have you learned the most from so far?
I am thinking of Jogi Löw and Hansi Flick.
You have the package I always talk about: Top notch in terms of both work and people.
As a player, Louis van Gaal, from whom I was able to take an incredible amount tactically with me, and Otto Rehagel, as one of the most successful coaches of his generation, had a big impact on me.
I always pulled out certain things.
Many roads lead to Rome.

How was the preparation for your new job - you didn't know where you would end up?
For a year I looked at various things that structured the content from my training as a football teacher, because I didn't know whether I was getting an offensive or defensive team, for example.
What are your goals as a coach?
Altach is now the right step.
Then we'll see how far we can go.
Of course, my goal must be to be on the line in the Bundesliga and the Champions League at some point.
I make no bones about it.
But the first steps are the decisive ones.
There are also negative examples of ex-professionals who have failed as coaches - how do you feel about that?
I didn't consciously look at them.
There are simply too many factors at play.
For me, people are always decisive.
