Laporta asks for militancy at the Camp Nou after the invasion of 30,000 Eintracht supporters

The Barcelona board tries to activate the presence of fans in the stadium after a time of disaffection that has aggravated the economic and sports crisis

The Camp Nou is getting old without the Espai Barça being born, while a stop at Montjuïc for the 2023-2024 season is being announced along the way.

Barça already had to invest 1.8 million euros last August to repair the damage to a stadium that has progressively lost spectators and that has only been shaken by unprecedented challenges such as the Barcelona women's matches against Real Madrid ( 91,553) and Wolfsburg (91,648).

The convening power of the team captained by Alexia Putellas contrasted with the demobilization generated by the one led by Busquets.

One has been able to attract a new, more youthful and familiar fan, while the other has tired the veteran member and has not aroused any interest in the young person or in the tourist who returns to Barcelona.

No image better reflects the season from the point of view of social disinterest, and also of sporting hardship and economic need -the collection exceeded three million-, than that of the Europa League match played on April 14 against Eintranch Frankfurt when 30,000 Germans occupied the Camp Nou each with their ticket purchased through the club's website or through resale purchases facilitated by the members and subscribers -about 15,000- of Barça.

That invasion of white fans denounced the apathy of many Barcelona fans and forced the board to review the policy aimed at encouraging attendance at the Camp Nou.

The watchword is to reward fidelity, avoid marketing and warn that having a season ticket does not mean having a seat as property, even if the members are the owners of Barça.

The board of directors announced this Wednesday that the season ticket holders will no longer have any more time off - 26,291 had received - and that those who do not go to the stadium or free their seat in any match of the 2022-2023 season will lose their season ticket status for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Seient Lliure will also be applied in reverse to those who do not attend the field for 10 games and will put their seat up for sale if they do not notify them within 72 hours -in the case of the Palau it will be six games- and, on the other hand, it will offer advantages and discounts for members who attend 85% of the Camp Nou matches.

The plan also includes the creation of a digital subscription and the updating of the census -the last revision is from 2012-.

Barça wants to encourage membership registrations and activate the subscriber or they will resort to the waiting list, where those registered are about 13.

A club report ensures that the average attendance at the stadium before the pandemic decreed in 2019 was about 73,000 spectators -out of a capacity of 98,000 fans- and that only about 44,000 of the 85,000 subscribers went to the field while 20,000 did not even release their seat, as published by the newspaper Sport.

The numbers have not improved after the covid-19 restrictions were lifted.

Although 86,442 people attended the last classic, attendance in the current season hardly exceeded 70,000 spectators and figures were even reached that had not been seen since 2003, as happened in the match against Cádiz: 57,495 spectators.

The match against Sevilla, the highlight of the course, barely exceeded 76,000 fans -the empty seats amounted to 22,000-.

Participation in the last and decisive assembly was also very low despite being telematic: the delegates who voted for the sale of the club's assets were 646 and 549 when 4,478 had been called -in 2010 they reached 1,202.

The numbers contrast with those registered in the 2021 elections when 50.42% of the members voted: 55,611 out of 110,290 -currently the census is 144,484, far from the record figure of 176,058.

There has been a loss of collective interest and a growing commercialization of season tickets in the same way that the presence of tourists in the stadium has decreased due to the pandemic and later due to Messi's departure and the lack of competitiveness of a team that has closed the blank season for the first time since 2008.

The crisis, therefore, is sporting, economic and social in a club that is owned precisely by its members, whom Laporta has exempted from contributing money -either through fees or spills- to combat an extremely serious situation because "they are not responsible" but the fault lies with the previous directive chaired by Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Laporta does not ask for money - the club collects more than 40 million for subscriptions and less than 20 for fees - but militancy: the Camp Nou must be filled again.
