The only 15-year-old swimmer Summer McIntosh became world champion over 200 meters butterfly in Budapest.
The Canadian also set a junior world record in 2:05.20 minutes thanks to a strong final sprint.
It was her second medal at the title fights in the Hungarian capital.
She won silver in the 400m freestyle.
In the butterfly race on Wednesday, she relegated the American Hali Flickinger and Zhang Yufei from China to second and third place.
The Toronto-born swimmer was the youngest member of Canada's Olympic team in Tokyo, where she placed fourth in the women's 400-meter freestyle.
"I wasn't expecting to swim 2:05," McIntosh said.
“But as soon as I got out of the water, I soaked up the energy and excitement of the audience.
I got a lot of adrenaline and motivation and then put it into practice.«
A teenager also wins the men's race – Dressel drops out
In the 100-meter freestyle race, the main protagonist was also young and very fast.
17-year-old David Popovici of Romania won in 47.58 seconds ahead of Frenchman Maxime Grousset and Joshua Liendo Edwards of Canada.
Popovici had already secured the title over double the distance on Monday.
US swimming star Caeleb Dressel, meanwhile, decided not to start again at the World Championships.
The seven-time Olympic champion had canceled his start in the semi-finals over 100 meters freestyle on Tuesday for "medical reasons" - the duel with Popovici was canceled.
On Wednesday, the US team announced that the 25-year-old would no longer swim in Budapest after consultation with the medical department.
On the first two days of the competition, Dressel had won gold in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay and over 50 meter butterfly – his World Championship titles number 14 and 15.
