At the weekend Gina Lückenkemper starts at the German Championships in Berlin.

The sprinter is in top form, ran the 100 m last time in 11.04.

The interview.

Munich – It's going well with Gina Lückenkemper.

Two weeks ago in Wetzlar, the 25-year-old ran the 100 meters in 11.04 seconds, her best time in four years.

Before the German Championships in Berlin next weekend, Lückenkemper talks to our newspaper about training in Florida, borderline experiences and problems in society.

Gina Lückenkemper, you visited the DFB women on Wednesday.

What were your impressions?

I had a conversation with national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and was also allowed to watch the training.

I always find that very interesting when you think outside the box of your own sport.

It was a great experience, the DFB team is a great group.

You yourself show a strong form with 11.04 seconds.

A few tears flowed after your run in Wetzlar.

During training in Florida it was already clear that I was in such good shape.

So it wasn't really surprising for me to run such times.

But running great times in training and running great times in competition are two very different things.

It was just a relief: Hey, now I can transfer the good training to the competition again.

How important is it for you that you have found a sporting home in Florida?

My training group in Clermont under Lance Brauman, Pure Athletics, is super important to me.

I feel great.

It's just incredibly inspiring to be able to train with so many highly talented athletes.

I'm allowed to train in a group with world champions, Olympic champions and world record holders.

This is madness.

The environment is incredibly good for me.

Even now, during my time in Germany, I am still in contact with my coach and the other athletes.

We're excited to see how the others are doing.

I don't regret going to the US in any way.

I am very happy with the training group.

As you can read, you first had to get used to the intensity of the training.

I learned in Florida to go beyond the borders.

It's something I haven't been able to do to this extent before.

But when you train in a group with such athletes, you obviously don't want to reveal your weaknesses.

Nobody wants to finish last in training either.

We all push each other.

Yes, training hurts sometimes.

But I have to say that in year three the pain has at least become a bit more bearable and not quite as extreme (laughs).

As a competitive athlete, you also need a thick skin outside of training.

You recently said that you've been "pulled through the mud" for the last few years.

You're immediately the bogeyman if things don't go well.

In such situations, I find it amazing what some people dare to judge other people.

People who don't know me, who don't know how I train, who don't know what I'm putting into the sport want to judge me.

I always find that very questionable.

I don't go into other people's offices and judge people for their performance on the job.

I think it's crazy how quickly we judge other people in our society

Gina Lückenkemper

Did you take that with you?

To be honest, I think it's generally crass how quickly we judge other people in our society.

It's been really good for me over the past few years.

simply because it didn't work out that way for me.

I'm really sad that there are people who - figuratively speaking - think they have to step on others who are lying on the ground again.

It's been frightening for the past two years.

In such situations you should shake hands or try to motivate other people.

The German Championships are coming up this weekend.

How excited are you for Berlin?

The Berlin Olympic Stadium is my absolute favorite stadium.

I love running there.

The atmosphere is always great, I just feel good there.

I'm very excited to see what kind of times will be brought to the track.

I think it will be a very nice championship.

After the DM, there are still the World Cup and European Championship this year.

Is that difficult because there isn't one big highlight like in an Olympic year?

It tends to be more difficult.

Because you want to perform in both competitions and this places certain demands on yourself and your body.

And that within a short time, that's a real house number.

But we all knew long enough that this double burden existed and had enough time to prepare accordingly.

I'm really excited about both events, but because I now live in Bamberg, the attraction for the European Championships in Munich is of course a bit greater.
