The England rugby team suffered a major blow ahead of the start of their tour of Australia with the FA announcing on Friday that winger Jonny May had tested positive for Covid-19.

May, 32, who had knee surgery in January, became symptomatic when he arrived in Perth on Wednesday.

According to guidelines from the Western Australian provincial government, he must spend the next seven days in self-isolation.

No other members of the touring squad have tested positive.

May is now unlikely to take part in the first of three Tests against the Wallabies, scheduled for July 2.

The Gloucester player made his competitive comeback as a substitute against Saracens earlier this month and started in England's humiliating 52-21 loss to British Barbarians in a game international without stake at Twickenham on Sunday.

May is second only to Rory Underwood in the list of England's all-time leading try scorers.

England have won all eight of their Tests against the Wallabies since former Australia manager Eddie Jones took charge of the Rose XV after the 2015 World Cup.
