A day after artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez lost consciousness during the final of the solo exercise at the World Championships in Budapest, it is now revealed why her coach is the one who jumped into the water to save her.

The World Swimming Federation (FINA) announced today (Friday) that it will re-examine regulations preventing the intervention of lifeguards without a signal from the judges, after American artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez lost consciousness during the final of the solo exercise at the World Championships in Budapest, until her coach The same from drowning.

FINA has revealed that the lifeguards hired to work at the World Swimming Championships, can only go into action, after approval from the judges, which is why the Spaniard Puentes, first jumped into the pool after seeing Alvarez sink to the bottom.

The FINA event lifeguard regulations read: "The lifeguards could jump into the water after receiving a signal from the judges' body, within the limit imposed to prevent breaks in the competition program in the event of a possible misunderstanding", those who now appear to be re-examining to prevent the next disaster.

It all came, after much criticism for the organizers and the World Swimming Federation, after Points said she signaled to lifeguards about the water problem of her apprenticeship, but after seeing no response from them, she jumped into the water with all her clothes on.

It was the second time Points had been forced to rescue Alvarez after she jumped into the pool during last year’s Olympic qualifiers and pulled her to safety along with American swimming partner Lindy Schroeder.
